Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cisco-Linksys EZXS55W EtherFast 10/100 5-Port Workgroup Switch

Customer Review: Be Sure Placed in Right Order
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this switch like most folks to allow an existing Linksys cable modem/router to provide an Internet signal to an additional Ethernet port in my house. In the meantime, I recently bought a Sony Blu-Ray player with Internet video streaming, but I found that the existing Linksys modem/router could not handle the upgraded high-speed service. So I bought a new Motorola DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem. I naively thought I could simply use this Linksys switch to send the signal along its merry way throughout my house. WRONG. After several hours of reseting the IP address on each computer, and several calls to Charter (my ISP), I called Motorola. The Motorola SurfBoard modem is a throughput device, that assigns only one IP and the Linksys switch is not a smart/managed type that can assign individual IP addresses. So I have a new router on its way from Amazon, which should solve the problem, once I place the router immediately after the modem but before the switch! The router will then assign an unique IP address to my four computers and Blu-Ray player. Perhaps this is common knowledge, but the technical support staff at Charter were not aware of this. So just an FYI.

Customer Review: Great product
Summary: 5 Stars

Purchased this product lookig for a switch that allowed me to connect multiple systems to my home network. And it does that function exceptionally well. I had multiple printers & PC's to connect, and this switch handled multiple connection speeds flawlessly. Stylish and extremely small, it fits on my desktop without taking up very much space (approx 4.5" wide x 3.5 inches deep). All cables and connectors are on the back. The front panel led's for each port display link/act, Duplex, and connect speed.
The only thing that needs improvement on this switch is the "user guide" included with the product. There are 6 ports on this switch.. ports 1-5 and an 'uplink' port. But use of the uplink port disbles the use of port 5, leaving 4 ports for your peripheral devices. This is a bit confusing, as the device is advertised as a 5 port workgroup switch. A quick trip to [...] downloading the 'quick-start guide' (which was not included with the product) did a much better job of explaining the use of the uplink and 5th ethernet port. Overall, buy this product if you need a small switch for additional devices. Can't be beat for the price, in my opinion.

Customer Review: Perfect for your home or home office network
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this switch when my home network started to grow and was not able to accommodate all the new devices that I was adding to it. Several of those devices do have wireless capabilities, but I felt much better with having them directly connected to the ethernet through the old-fashioned wired way. This is both for security reasons as well as for the sake of reliability the speed of connection. A full additional router for that purpose would be unnecessary and much of an overkill, and this switch seemed like a perfect solution. When I got it I was at first surprised with how small it was - it is hardly larger than a deck of cards. The small size belies its performance, since it worked perfectly and impeccably form the very moment I had it set up. I have been using it for about half a year now, and have not had any performance or other issues with it. Its small size is a bonus since it doesn't add to the electronic clutter at home. The front lights give you an indication of the working status of several network features. Overall, I have been extremely satisfied with it and for the price there is probably no better switch on the market right now.

Customer Review: Best bang for the buck

First off, in case anyone out there doesn't know, there are a few advantages to purchasing a switch rather than a hub. The main advantage, for most users anyway, is that a switch provides optimal bandwidth to all ports, whereas a hub splits available bandwidth between all active users. This means that if you are sharing a cable modem for example with others in a house/office building, connection speed will not be reduced when multiple users connected to the switch are online.

Now, as for this little baby, as soon as I saw the price I grabbed it instantly. The Linksys name had been mentioned to me favorably before, and the going price was within a few dollars of most 5-port hubs. I have been using it for 5 months now to share the cable modem in my apartment, and I can honestly say I have never had a single difficulty. Setup was quick and easy, I was online in less than 5 minutes. The whole device is smaller than most alarm clocks, so storage is hardly an issue. Overall, this is a best buy hands down, anyone out there who needs inexpensive networking equipment, this is the way to go.

Customer Review: Disposable Technology = Lame Switch...
Summary: 1 Stars

I gave this switch one star only because zero stars or a negative star rating was not possible. The switch is dirt cheap for a reason, they are garbage. I have two of these exact switches they both died within a year. Linksys used to create really good long lasting products. Now everything Linksys makes seems to be junk that works for a few months then dies.

Customer Care is non-existant. The labels showing the model numbers and other supporting information are so small you need an electron microscope to see the print. Not that it matters much because, any so called tech support is totally worthless. This switch is just a ripe stinker. You would pay too much in heartache, headache and aggrivation if Linksys gave this trash away for free, yes it really is THAT BAD!

Linksys Products are like tissue paper, in that they last about the same amount of time after proper use. Please do not waste your hard earned money on this garbage. If you buy this linksys switch then you have only yourself to blame when you sit writing about all its flaws and support nightmares.
