Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Memory Card Carrying Case, BlackCustomer Review: Does The Job, Low Quality For The Money Summary: 3 Stars
I just bought two of these, and I'm disappointed. For as much as I payed for them, I was expecting something built to the quality of, say, a Case Logic binder. I throw the name "Case Logic" out there because most US citizens that shop in typical department stores have run across Case Logic-brand gear. There's a sturdiness to the construction of good quality bags. Other good companies that make affordable and rugged gear with durable zippers and stiff, heavy guage materials include Columbia, Swiss Gear, etc.
THIS PRODUCT does not come ANYWHERE near the quality of those other manufacturers (although to-date I could find no US manufactured version of this product, and thus have no other options). Grammar Nazis don't bother correcting my ALL CAPS LOCK. I don't care. CAPS LOCK is better than breaking something.
Don't think "heavy duty nylon binder". Think "cloth DOLLAR STORE children's pencil case".
Pro's
* It does the job advertised just fine; I can stick my SD cards in here, and this will work for the time being.
Con's
* cheaply constructed (for the price paid)
* a miniature flimsy zipper, with tiny fine teeth that might fail at the very first snag
* non-removable cheap plastic inserts that I am just absolutely certain will disintegrate in the next 6 months or less
I would rather have paid $20 for a good, durable, rugged little binder than $7 for something which should be sold for $1.50 in the children's aisle of a pharmacy.
If I can summarize my views succinctly: The zipper's gonna fail, and the plastic sleeves will soon split with repeated removal of the SD cards, followed by replacing the SD cards. The material will likely begin to form little cloth piles if it is treated roughly. If, however, you are going to use these cases ever-so-gently, with a steady hand, you can probably get a year or two out of them, especially if the cases are going to just sit on your desk. Unfortunately, I bought this case (2 of them) because I use SD cards on a DAILY BASIS.
Frankly, I'm a bit ticked but I won't return them because these are the only ones I could find. If you are reading this, manufacturer, how about you talk to the factory in China (MADE IN CHINA, like everything else) you're getting these from, and have them "up" the quality? Double the guages of the cloth, the plastic inserts, and the zippers, and then you could even double the price, and I'd pay for it.
But after these things fail, and they inevitably will, I think I'll go somewhere else to replace them.
