I'd suggest to Amazon that it remove this item from its Kindle site. It does not fare well when compared to the superior Mighty Bright lamp, also Kindle compatible.
Faults:
> Clip is not really stable and is big enough that it covers a small portion of the screen. The clip is disk shaped with a pair of soft buttons on each side. The springs probably vary - mine is not strong enough. Might Bright has a narrower clip, holds firmly on the top side of even the Kindle 2.
> Lamp is a pair of LEDs housed in a lens covering that allows light to spill in the reader's eyes. Both LEDs operate at all times - too much light in some conditions. Mighty Bright also has two LEDs but allows the user to shut one down, resulting in a soft even light over the entire screen of even the DX. In use, the light source is shielded from the user's view
> Battery type is button. I haven't found any rechargeable buttons and they tend to be more expensive than conventional AAA batteries. Mighty Bright uses 3 triple A batteries and the rechargeable Metal Hydride I use last a long time.
> Neck of the Mighty Bright is a little longer than the Great Point and far more flexible.
Cost of both lights is currently the same.
Unless you're determined to have a white plastic case, I'd advise against the Great Point. And yes, we have both in this house: my partner ordered the Mighty Bright after she tried my Great Point. I borrow it whenever I can.
You listening Amazon? I'd return it if I could but I didn't have the Mighty Bright in the house for comparison until that privilege had expired.
