Customer Review: Save yourself the stress and issues with this printer

I have owned 3 seperate printers since have computers around, with an Epson, this Lexmark printer, and now a Canon PIXMA printer. Needless to say, this Lexmark model printer turned out to be the worst printer that I have EVER used.
When I first purchased this printer, I set it up for wireless printing and set up was pretty easy, although it was time-consuming. Had the printer up and running and the wireless printing capability was great, while it lasted. After a few months, the wireless connnection for printing would not work. I reinstalled the printing software in order to create a "different" Lexmark printer to see if it would work but this didn't do anything. I contacted Lexmark about the issue and after more than 2 hours watching them control my computer to fix the problem, they did absolutely nothing. Completely worthless when it comes to their own IT department to help you out. I completely uninstalled the printer multiple times to start over, and it has never been the same once it messed up the first time. Not sure it would ever fix itself unless I got a new computer to install it on.
I ended up using the USB connection in order to get the printer to print. Problem is, there are serious issues with the USB connection with the printer also. You will get several issues with "problem communicating with the printer". This message happens almost daily for me. Eventually, I can get it to print but the USB cable that is provided to connect to your computer, many times this connection will not work, for whatever reason.
I primarily use this printer for printing shipping labels, which, when it works, it does a pretty good job of. The paper feeding is POORLY designed, where you have to manually feed the printer if you have more than probably 10 sheets of paper in the feeding tray. Shipping labels will not run through the feeder either, unless there is only 1 label (on a 2 label sheet) left on the page it will take with no problem.
Here is my overview of the pros/cons for this printer:
PROS
- Reasonable ink consumption - when putting the settings on the lowest ink setting, the ink cartridges go a long way
- Printing speed is pretty good - only when printing on draft and low ink setting
- Settings easy to use / Installation and setup was easy although slow
CONS
- POOR paper feeding - have to manually feed the unit as the feeder does not work well
- Communication problems - printer will not print for all web browsers or even in general!! Couldn't print pages from Microsoft Word even. Only program I was able to print from was Internet Explorer. USB Connection is terrible as it will work sometimes and most of the time you will get a "PROBLEM COMMUNICATING WITH THE PRINTER" error. Unreliable to print and causes extreme headaches if you need something printed. Asked Lexmark for help but they couldn't.
- Lexmark Customer Service / IT is WORTHLESS!! You would be better off figuring out your issues on your own
- Poorly designed ink cartridges - Purchased a black ink cartridge from Office Depot and it was DEFECTIVE. Apparently the chips are extremely sensitive and there was a minor blotch on the chip, causing the printer not to read the cartridge. ONLY BUY THESE CARTRIDGES FROM A RETAILER!! If you buy from an individual and it doesn't work, you might not get any help!!
Overall, I am not very impressed with this printer at all. It has turned out to be a nightmare and has been really stressful when I needed something to print, and it wouldn't print with the errors that it has. Sometimes, after reconnecting the printer 4-5 times and turning it off a few times, I could get it to work. DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER UNLESS YOU WOULD BE USING THE WIRELESS PRINTING!!!!. THE USB CONNECTION IS A JOKE AND JUST HOPE THAT THE WIRELESS PRINTING DOES NOT MESS UP LIKE MINE DID OR IT WILL NEVER BE THE SAME. The paper feeding issue is bad enough to me not to buy this printer. While I have had a terrible experience with the printing, I have not used the printer for copying or scanning documents so I cannot provide these details with this review. I only hope the Canon PIXMA I just purchased will serve me better than this one did. Save yourself the trouble and stress, buy a different printer!!
