Customer Review: Absolute necessity in your electronics travel bag

If you travel domestically or internationally and carry personal electronics requiring 5v dc for charging through a USB cable, you absolutely need one of these nifty devices.
It plugs into an AC or DC power outlet with the supplied plug adapters and provides up to 2A (amps) power through 4 USB ports. So instead of carrying four adapters, you need only this hummer and and appropriate USB cable(s).
A very potent combination would be this adapter, retractable cables from someone like Zip-Linq and a four outlet extension cord.
More and more devices are standardizing on a miniUSB input at 5vdc> You can get retractable cables with plugs for specialty ports, like iPod or Sansa MP3 player, miniUSB plugs for many cell phones and other devices, as well as microUSB asnd other specialty tips for Nokia and other brands. With the Lenmar 4 port adapter, you can carry just it, the cables and leave your four other adapters at home, reducing the clutter in your bag and the number of things you can lose.
Lenmar's tech specs are somewhat unclear on one point and I have no means to measure it: that is the maximum output per port. The packaging and Lenmar's website say "5V, 500mA output (min.) 2A (max)." Many devices require 1000mA for optimal and speedy charging. It is unclear if the Lenmar adapter would provide 1000mA if only two devices were connected or 500mA each under all circumstances. There might be some situations where you might be in a hurry where this could be important. Just a consideration to keep in mind.
Overall, a great little gadget for anyone who travels. A total of 4 power adapters are included for all international outlets. Personally, since I travel only domestically, I wouldn't have minded a less expensive option for 100V AC only, preferably with folding prongs. Even so, this device merits a place in my travel bag.
