Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of LaCie iamaKey 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive 130870Customer Review: great if you can get one Summary: 5 Stars
at the time of writing this review this is $43.97 but it should be $36.99
it was $36.99 but after the article in Wired Magazine they sold like crack and the price changed
but since it is sold out everywhere but here it is more money than it has to be because it is hard to find
not cool Amazon - you should discourage sellers from upping the price because of supply/demand issues and maybe not list them or put some kinda message up telling people that it is over priced because of limited availability or something along those lines
I will wait until it comes down in price to get another one
Customer Review: Something the lasts and lasts Summary: 5 Stars
So I'm a college student majoring in digital media, which means I constantly have to pull files (large and small) off or various places, duplicate them, transport them, etc. Though I have an external hard drive for the big stuff, from the same company that also can take a beating, the small files that I need easy access to always goes on a quick thumb drive. I lost the cap for this a little while after I bought it. It's been on my student ID ever since and two years later (cap-less) and being thrown, stepped on, and enduring other forms of abuse, it still works. While it's a bit slow, it more than makes up for it in durability.
Customer Review: LaCie iamaKey 8 GB Summary: 3 Stars
This product takes almost three times as long to transfer memory as a traditional usb drive. I can only assume that they tossed out function for form with this product. Don't get me wrong, its great for normal documents, but if you work with any media over 1GB than this is not the drive for you. Average users will love the style, but anybody with large files will hate it. If you want it for PC use dont get it either, not one PC has read mine right. They all assume that it is unformatted and only 200mb in size. Mac's will be just fine but it is slow. Don't try it with an Xbox 360 either, far too slow for it to understand.
Customer Review: Slim and Strong, not the fastest, wasn't expecting it to be Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this because if my flashdrive can disconnect from my keys I'll certainly lose it.
Pros: Strong, doesn't flex under weight of keys when plugged in. Looks good and is slim enough in my keyring that it doesn't add any bulk.
Cons: A little expensive per GB, could be faster (not a major problem). Once you lose the tiny clear plastic cap for the end, the end of the key drive is a little sharp. Should have been brushed aluminum, gets a little scratched up from my other keys.
Final Thoughts: Probably the best combination of form and function for a usb flash drive.
Customer Review: Looks awesome, doesn't work Summary: 1 Stars
This thing arrived and was instantly unable to format, even using disc management software.
what a pain. Now returning it a couple of months later to Lacie - this is a joke. I still haven't used my device.
Thankfully I kept the packaging - only way to get your warranty. I put in a call for tech support, they try to to charge you $16 just to talk to them. I told them no, it was broken, I wanted to return it...finally they let me through and reported the broken item.
We will see if I ever get a real working flash drive.
DO NOT BUY!
