I am a contract programmer and have been using this product for over one year.
I lost the little plastic cap in probably the first week. It makes no difference. I wear the Lacie on my car key ring and it has been very rugged. It has caused me no problems.
Those who complain about speed are purists. It's plenty fast enough for USB2.
Most important. I may walk off and leave it plugged into a machine; but since it's with my car keys, it's impossible for me to drive off and leave it behind. That has been invaluable.
It makes a great and much appreciated gift.
It has great wow factor.

The LaCie iamakey is, without a doubt, the coolest flash drive I've ever owned. Finally, a solidly built flash drive that I can put on my key ring and carry with me all the time! I was really pleased to find out how sturdy this drive is. Much sturdier than I was expecting. The metal is very solid. Also, the size and shape of the iamakey drive is such that I can still use the USB port directly adjacent to it while it's plugged into my laptop. It's true that the speed of this drive is slower than a lot of other flash drives, but I'm still totally in love with it. It is soooo cool looking! Kudos to whoever designed this product. I own two of these imaKey 8GB flash drives, and everyone who sees one wants one. I got the first one to hold all my software keys--keys on a key, right? But I liked it so much and got so many comments on it that I bought another one to attach to my keyring for everyday use. It works well, looks great and has a very high cool factor. The only problem is the little plastic cover for the contacts at the end of the key where it fits into the USB port. I tried to keep mine on, but they simply break in a matter of weeks. Great little device. Fits nicely on a key chain, unobtrusive, thin, looks like any other key on the keyring, plugs directly into USB port, and does exactly what it says it would do - quickly, easily, reliably. Great little device.
The only comment I have is that there is a detachable small plastic cover covering the thin metallic contacts to protect them from dirt, oils, etc. This has somehow gotten lost. It would be nice to be able to find a replacement cover to protect the device.

I asked for this as a Christmas present, and I do love it. I wanted it mainly because I didn't trust those plastic key ring loops on other thumb drives, and wanted to keep my information on me all the time without fear of losing it. I read reviews prior to purchase, and was aware of several people mentioning problems with the plastic cover getting lost. I've had this Flash Drive for less than 2 months, and the cover is now lost as well. :(
Needless to say, the drive itself is awesome and I would recommend it to anyone. Only wish that it would come with extra plastic covers, or at least made it possible to order extra ones from manufacturer.
