Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of LaCie iamaKey 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive 130870

Customer Review: great product!!
Summary: 5 Stars

this flash drive is great! After losing multiple flash drives when the plastic piece broke where it attaches to the key chain, I found this flash drive and instantly loved the idea of it! I like almost everything about this flash drive, it is rugged, stylish, and the capacity is great for me. The flash drive is extremely thin and fits in my pocket great! I keep it in my pocket almost 16 hours a day everyday, attached to all of my other keys and have not had one problem with durability over the year that i have had it. The only thing that i did not like about the product is the cap. The cap seemed pretty chinsey and it fell off and became lost within a week. This did not cause a problem though, i have had it on my keyring without a cap for a year with no problems. Every time i show this flash drive to my friends they cannot believe that it is a flash drive! It definitely has the wow factor! I would recommend this product to a friend, no questions asked.

Customer Review: Cool appearance, but went through 2 drives in only 3 months
Summary: 2 Stars

Let's start with the positives: this is a pretty cool-looking USB drive, and its fits easily on a key ring. However appearances can be deceiving. Firstly, the cap that protects the metal connections keeps falling off and it's certainly an after thought and not a great design feature. More importantly I have had a drive stop working after only 1 month, and the replacement that Amazon sent me (very quickly, mind you) also failed with identical I/O drive errors after 2 months. The problem is that at some point the drive gets very SLOW and can no longer be written to. No, it's not full. Files cannot be deleted and the drive won't reformat. LaCie support is fairly ineffectual and they insist you open an account in order to contact them. They will only post replies to your support questions via your account, which I found irritating. I've given up with this product and would definitely not recommend it.

Customer Review: Not bad.
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this key about 7 months ago and have had it on my keychain ever since. It has taken a pretty good amount of abuse so far. I lost the little plastic cap about 2-3 months in (which I fully expected to do) but the key is fine without it. The only thing I've noticed is that the seam which holds the front and back of the key together has begun to open just a tiny bit on the upper part of the lower section (below the part you'd hold with your fingers, on the actual 'key' section). I can squeeze it closed, but the fact that it has widened slightly has not affected the drive at all.

I would recommend this drive to anyone looking for a quick way to store files on the go. It's plenty durable, and it hides away in your keys so you don't have to make a conscious effort to make sure you've got your thumb drive with you at all times.

Customer Review: Works as expected... wish it had 16gb
Summary: 5 Stars

You pay a few bucks more per GB... but it makes up for it in design and function. It came nicely empty without a bunch of junk pre-installed. I liked that it came with its own icon that showed up as the icon for its drive in Windows 7 explorer.

As a test, I installed XBMC Live on it and booted my Dell Precision T3400 with the key. Flawless.

PROS
- Cool, unique design
- Descent space. I really wanted as much as a dual layer DVD... and I got it.
- Speed seems adequate but I didn't test.
- Weight and build quality feel good.

CONS
- My only problem is forgetting it in the USB slot... but that's a personal problem.
- A little expensive per GB. But not bad.
- Easy to lose cover... I think mine is already lost. But, I don't really care.

Customer Review: Just what I wanted
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this "usb key" months ago.

It is legit the size, width, and shape of a key. It's very light too.

It came with a little plastic cover for the tip of it which broke in no time, but it has survived anyways. It has been tossed around, dropped countless times, fallen in a puddle or two, and yet continues to work like a charm. I actually bought another one as a gift.

It is capable of running portable apps (like VLC media player or firefox) and can hold all my documents and a movie or two. The read/write speeds seem to be the same as any other flash drive I would use.

Long story short, it can take a beating and really is just like a key. I like it a lot (enough so to write a review for once).
