Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of LaCie Rugged All-Terrain 250 GB USB 2.0/FireWire 400/800 Portable External Hard Drive 301291Customer Review: Good little portable drive Summary: 5 Stars
This drive works exactly as designed. It's small. It's rugged and it does exactly what I want in enabling a portable storage device for taking along on photo shooting trips where I can store back-up copies of my data. I have more than one Rugged drive and the only questionable comment I'd offer is that sometimes they seem to get hotter than would seem good. None of them has ever failed for me so far.
Customer Review: outstanding rugged drive Summary: 5 Stars
We do a tremendous amount of field work as forensic crime scenes. This drive has been through every weather condition and dropped or bumped numerous times. It's design and architecture has kept our data error free and protected. Although we normally use our own backup software, the backup utility is fast and easy to use.
Highly recommended for any Military or Law Enforcement professional
Customer Review: Great Hard Drive Summary: 4 Stars
This is a great portable hard drive. It's small and offers multiple fast connections--firewire and USB. It's versatility is one of its strengths, followed by its size and capacity. It does get fairly hot when in use. I did have one read failure after a year of use. Not sure why, but I had to format the entire drive again. I am currently using it once again, but not sure why the drive had a problem.
Customer Review: USB connection is OK, Firewire connectivity is dodgy Summary: 3 Stars
I bought one of these "triple interface" LaCie 250 gb "Rugged" drives off Amazon. Perhaps it's just mine that's defective, but mine kept having connection problems when linked to my computer using the Firewire 800 or 400 cables provided with the disk. However, the USB connection works great. So I'd recommend getting the USB only version instead. (My computer is a G4 Powerbook running Os X 10.5.6)
Customer Review: Lacie 250GB Rugged H-drive Summary: 5 Stars
I haven't put it under extensive use but so far it seems to be very rugged and has performed flawlessly backing up a pc laptop. The extra ports are great and give faster options. I would definitely use this as a direct to disk option using a laptop and firewire video camera. It also runs great off of bus power using any of the available ports. I would highly recommend this drive.
