Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of LaCie Rugged All-Terrain 250 GB USB 2.0/FireWire 400/800 Portable External Hard Drive 301291Customer Review: Fast, Simple, Reliable Summary: 4 Stars
LaCie Rugged Hard Disk is indeed about as "rugged" as these inherently touchy machines can be.
It is fairly simple to install and use. My only complaint (a very minor one) is the lack of any external light indicating its status (e.g., connected and functioning). Since it is important that such devices not be disconnected from a computer while still in operational mode, a signal light indicating the drive's status would have been nice. However, it does its job very easily and quickly -- fully meriting a 4-star rating.
Customer Review: Works great; Looks awesome Summary: 5 Stars
This external hard drive is perfect for a college student such as myself. I shoot a lot of digital photos and this LaCie hard drive is an ideal way for me to store my work. The firewire ports allow for a fast and easy transfer of files. Not only does it work great, it, as the name suggests, is very rugged and not a bad-looking piece of technology. It is very visually pleasing to me, which, being an art major, is important to me for reasons that I'm not quite sure of. Anyway, I can whole-heartedly recommend this product.
Customer Review: Great Addition to My iBook Summary: 5 Stars
My first Mac is an older iBook [2005] and has only a 60GB HD.
Using this LaCie, I was able to make 3 partitions: 1 to backup the install DVD for Leopard, 1 that contains a clone of my HD and is what I am now booting from [160GB], and 1 for extra photo & video storage [60GB].
[I used Carbon Copy Cloner w/ Disk Utility instead of trying-out the backup software that came w/ the HD.] So far; so good - very happy be able to install new software, work w/ graphics and have plenty of room to spare ;-)
Customer Review: Does what it's supposed to do Summary: 5 Stars
The product is exactly as described and for the last month has performed admirably. No issues, no failures. I use the disk as a backup clone of my laptop hard drive, so it doesn't get everyday use, but on the occasions that I have used it -- particularly when my laptop hard drive failed last week -- it has performed as expected. My husband owns two just like it (one is a different size); his favorable experience with the drives is what led me to purchase mine. We're a happy LaCie family.
Customer Review: Just what I needed. Summary: 5 Stars
I ran out of hard drive space on my 40 gb eMac and the LaCie 250 gb external was just what I needed. The Firewire unit was simple to hook up and works flawlessly. Partitioning and transferring things like my iPhoto library and music files was easy. I was also able to make a bootable hard drive for the LaCie. My old 40 gb eMac hd now has plenty of usable capacity for my needs and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg.
