Customer Review: La Cie = La Quality
Summary: 5 Stars

La Cie makes excellent storage products. This external hard drive is point and click and ready to go with any desktop setup.

PROS-

Great clean design makes it easy to fit in very compact spaces.
Aluminum case wicks of the heat in an effective and quiet fashion.
Performance is top notch with Firewire, but I wish my iMac had eSATA capability to REALLY test the performance

CONS-

n/a

Over the course of a decade, this is my sixth La Cie external hard drive, and I have not yet had a problem with any of my La Cie purchases. This is by far the most elegant, highest performance, and quietest La Cie purchase to date. The software EMC Retrospect is a great added bonus, and I would strongly recommend this product for those seeking a non intrusive, good value, high performance external hard drive.

In summary, this drive is a slam dunk winner, and you can't do too badly by buying anything with a LaCie label.

Customer Review: Replacing this drive solved my computer's problems
Summary: 1 Stars

Because of the very positive reviews, I purchased this drive in August 2008 to use as a Time Machine backup for the iMac I bought on the same day. The computer never behaved to my expectations, being unable to hold an internet connection for more than an hour or so, draining memory so fast that I was having to restart several (or many) times a day. None of the diagnostics showed what was wrong, so I began to suspect the LaCie. I switched cables and plugged it into a USB port instead of the FireWire port in case the problem was in either the cable or the port. Finally I couldn't access the internet at all (although my very old iBook on the same desk had a strong signal) and decided the LaCie itself might be the problem. After I disconnected the LaCie and unplugged it, all the computer problems vanished. I have since installed a different brand of external hard drive and have had no further problems with internet access or with memory drain.

Customer Review: Awesome Drive
Summary: 5 Stars

This drive is awesome. It is super quiet and easy to use. Basically plug and play. I have Windows XP pro and Vista premium. I just plugged it thru the USB and eSata inputs and worked like a charm and no issues. I haven't tried the fire wire inputs (yet). I've had this drive for about two months and had no issues of any kind. I had too download the backup software from LaCie's website because my PC crashed when I was running the backup software already installed with the drive. Just like the instruccion booklet says "in case the PC lost power during installation". I did three backups totalling about 200GB and made a small dent. Before the backups my PC's read the capacity of my 1 TB drive as 930GB. That's kinda of a bummer, but there's nothing you can do about how PC's read the capacity of a drive. In summary, awesome drive. No problems. 1 USB, 1 eSata (1.5,3.0), 2 Firewire (400 and 800). Plenty of options for the future. Recommend this drive.

Customer Review: Great product for Mac
Summary: 4 Stars

Hi, i bought this one after i first bought the laCie 250GB tripple in 2004. I was waiting for the "fanless" version to come out, so it was worth the wait. It is quite, fast, i like the daisy-chaining capability, since I have one FW port on my PowerBook with usb 1.0 ports. So Everything is cool. I just wish they did not ship with the so short cables (usb, FW, eSata). I can clearily see that they want to save money on those things, the FW cable was so short that i am using the FW cable of my 1st laCie disk. The SW is pre-loaded on the drive, so u better be careful the 1st time you use the disk (they wanted to save on cds) and last, no plastic bags for the cables, so i had the impression that i was opening a 2nd hand drive box.... But performance wise, it's a great product~!

Customer Review: fast...fast...FAST. GREAT DRIVE
Summary: 4 Stars

WOW. Once again Lacie performs to my expectations. I have the older 500gb d2 that is 1.5 esata (not the full speed esata). I use it connected to firewire 800. After I filled this drive and looking for a way to increase my home theatre options...this drive fit the bill with its 1TB capacity.

Just to compare them, I daisy chained them with firewire 800 and copied over a 12GB folder. According to my mac, it would be done in 6 mins.

So then i hooked them up to esata on my macbook pro. 12GB file copied in 3 mins! talk about fast.

So after less than 5 mins I am copying huge folders in almost the time it takes to make a hot pocket in the microwave. I would give it 5 stars, but it seems to be loud when copying from my other drive.
