Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of LaCie 301825U d2 Quadra 500 GB eSATA/FireWire800/FireWire400/USB 2.0 External Hard Disk

Customer Review: good and sturdy
Summary: 4 Stars

lacie makes a good hard drive, not pretty to look at, but doesn't over heat easily. It's not exactly 500 GB, it's somewhere around 450ish. Check out iOmega brands too and compare prices before you buy. Also, my professor recommended that I get lacie brand because they last. So far, it's been good and reliable. I use it primarily on a mac and no problems yet.

Customer Review: LaCie d2 quadra external hard drive
Summary: 5 Stars

Hooked it up to my iMac and it went to work right away -- effortlessly, noiselessly syncing with Mac Time Machine. It sits there doing its backup work while its bright blue "eye" on the front reassures me it's on the job. It replaced a large Seagate hd whose performance was getting balky. Modest price, too, for a 500gb drive.

Customer Review: Great Drive
Summary: 4 Stars

I got this LaCie drive based on the great performance we saw with the 1TB model at work. I'm using it with an iMac and Mac OS X 10.4 to store all of the video for a film I'm producing. So far it's proven to be fadt and reliable, which is what I want in a drive. (I'm using Firewire 400 since that is what the iMac supports.)

Customer Review: Died within 6 months.
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought it to use with my iMac. After about 4 months, TimeMachine reported it could not access the drive. I had to reformat it and it worked ... for a while. Then it became unaccessable again. I reformatted and within 2 days it was bad.

Sorry, but an unreliable backup drive is NOT what I want.

Customer Review: Backup software is horrible
Summary: 3 Stars

The drive seems to work fine. However, the backup software and restore points they promised do not work. It tries to run a backup every time I reboot and there are little to no configuration settings to control it.
The backups always fail on data I have backed up on other drives countless times.
