Customer Review: Garbage Product and Worse Customer Service
Summary: 1 Stars

Purchased product to store my iTunes. Within one week the drive crashed. I called customer support and they refused to help me and honor the warranty. I eventually (year and a half later) reset the entire drive after finding no other option to save or retrieve my files, losing 10,000 songs. I began reloading the library and the system crashed again. LaCie refused to help saying the warranty had expired, but had I purchased one now, they had an extended warranty. Do not mess with LaCie equipment.

Customer Review: A pretty good ext. HD
Summary: 4 Stars

I recently upgraded my Lacie ext. Porsche design 160GB HD to the d2 Quad 500GB HD. And I am not disappointed. I have connected the same with firewire to my computer. The setup is straight forward and easy. The backup software found with the HD is basic but functional. You may wish to upgrade this. Otherwise, the disk runs very quietly and efficiently, hardly noticed that it was there. It does warm-up, which is to be expected but does not heat up. All in all I would recommend this product.

Customer Review: Died in less than a year
Summary: 2 Stars

I've never used LaCie before but figured it was a trustworthy brand. After 11 months of smooth operation, the hard drive suddenly wouldn't mount and kept making a slow clicking noise. The whole point of a backup drive is that it stay reliable. I've had a cheap Mercury drive for 6 years now with no problems. I've contacted LaCie support who thinks the problem might be solved with a different adapter. I find this doubtful, but once it arrives, I'll follow up on this review.

Customer Review: Another hardware failure
Summary: 1 Stars

This was our second and final experience with LaCie hard drives. It lasted 2 days and then was so corrupted/non-functional that it could not even be reformatted. A previous 1 TB unit did not even work out of the box. Both drives were used on a MAC although this is believed irrelevant. A competitors 'book' drive demonstrated no such frailties and works flawlessly. It is too bad the LaCie drives do not match the excellence of their Silverkeeper backup program.

Customer Review: Just dandy
Summary: 4 Stars

Overall, this is a really nice drive. Its fairly quiet, responsive and a good value. The only problem I have is that after loading it up with music and videos, it seems to have periods where it would struggle with playback, skipping and lagging during both music and video playback over the eSATA connection. However, I ran a quick defrag on the drive and that seems to have fixed the problem. Other than that, its been good to me. You can't go wrong with Lacie!
