Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of LaCie 301825U d2 Quadra 500 GB eSATA/FireWire800/FireWire400/USB 2.0 External Hard DiskCustomer Review: So Far So Good!! Summary: 4 Stars
So far, this has been pretty easy to set up - I didn't download the shortcuts and bells and whistles on it, but it apparently has shortcut capabilities. The only complaint that I have is that it actually only has 465.5 gigs and not 500. For some reason their downloads and other stuff take up a whopping 34.5 gigs of memory - that is a lot considering that they advertise that it is a 500 gig. I tried to take of unnecessary downloads in other languages and such, but it didn't help. Other than that - it does run beautifully and have had no problems thus far.
Customer Review: Great so far. Summary: 5 Stars
An excellent external HD that's well worth 20-30 bucks more than the competition.
Setup to build an exchange partition for my fiancee's Mac was a breeze.
It only makes noise when I'm booting or shutting down the PC it's connected too. It has a jack for every connector known to man. And it never seems to get hot.
I was wary of Lacie after some negative experiences with more portable drives of theirs a few years back but the reviews of this particular model impressed me enough to take a chance and I'm glad I did.
Customer Review: Quiet, reliable (hopefully) storage Summary: 5 Stars
This is my fourth LaCie drive, over a period of about ten years. None of them failed on me--I've just upgraded because I needed more space, and since I've had such good luck with LaCie, I stuck with them. This one was bought specifically to replace a Fantom drive that I made the mistake of buying because it was so cheap. That one crapped out after only about 3 years of only occasional use, and it will certainly be my last Fantom drive.
This is a very quiet unit, and does what you want from storage--it stores lots of stuff! LaCie rocks!
Customer Review: It's a perfect hard drive, and that's it Summary: 5 Stars
Works perfectly, it's very fast and has never skipped a beat with Mac OS 10.5.4 on my MacBook Pro through firewire 800. The design by F.A. Porsche is a bit lazy and over built, but it is still one of the most attractive pieces of hardware out there. If the drive is not in use it spins down, it takes almost 5 seconds to spin back up when it is needed again.
For some reason I was expecting a dazzling experience from this hard drive, but that's not really what hard drives do. It stores my files perfectly, and that it.
Customer Review: easier to set up than instructions suggest Summary: 5 Stars
The drive is new so I cannot say anything about its reliability, yet. It was very easy to set up for Windows: automatic format; two partitions that can be adjusted easily.
However the instructions made it appear that the whole process would be much more difficult, claiming that the drive was formatted for the Mac and would have to be reformatted for windows and partitioned using XP disk manager and all software on drive would be lost.
Instead installation was extremely simple!
