Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of LaCie 301825U d2 Quadra 500 GB eSATA/FireWire800/FireWire400/USB 2.0 External Hard DiskCustomer Review: Easy to use! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this item for family's personal use based on a recommendation from an IT person on our school staff. When it comes to computers, we are all beginners and not too familiar on how and why things work on a computer. He was so right with this product. The only thing we had to do was to open the packaging and read the very simple and brief instructions. Basically connect it into an outlet on one end and connect the other plug to our laptop computers. Then the simple instructions came onto the screen guiding us on how to back up our files from the laptops onto this external hard disk. Very user friendly for someone who is not too tech-savy!
Customer Review: This is a great drive! Summary: 5 Stars
This is by far the best external HD I've had. I have absolutely no complaints. I love the fact that it has both Firewire 800 and 400 ports and comes with all the cables. I've had it hooked up to my intel iMac for about a month now, and it's been flawless. It's fast, quiet, and easy to set up and use. All I did was plug it in, install the included software to my computer, and format it. Done! I'm using the included Silverkeeper back-up software with no problems. It's great; it backs up only what's changed since the last backup, is fast, and gives you access to your files directly (unlike Retrospect). In short, I'm glad I purchased this drive.
Customer Review: Lacie D2 Quadra 500 gb Summary: 3 Stars
Excellent hard drive runs quite and smooth.Only complaint that I have is it won't hot swap to eSata output when plugged into computer.Firewire and Usb hook up work fine when hot swapped between computers. But computer won't recognize ESata unless you plug eSata port into desktop and then restart computer.I purchased the hard drive to use the eSata port because it is so fast compared to Firewire and Usb to move files between different computers. So it is real unhandy to have to restart computer every time you use the eSata output of hard drive on a different computer. If not for that I would give unit 5 stars.
Customer Review: Works like a champ! Summary: 5 Stars
I recently purchased 2 of these 500 giggers from Amazon for my Macbook Pro. I read these work real well with Macs and I wanted one to use for video storage with iMovie, and the other to use with Time Machine as a backup. Their setup was easy as pie. Just plug them in, the Mac sees them instantly and kicks in their Lacie format wizard. In a quick 2-3 step process, I had them formatted in the MAC OS X Extended format in just minutes. I made my first Time Machine backup (and several since), and moved my video files (iMovie events) off. These drives are very quiet, look cool, and just work like a champ!
Customer Review: LaCie d2 Quadra 500 GB Summary: 5 Stars
I recently purchased this drive with the soul purpose of using the eSata interface with my Vista computer. The drive runs fairly quiet and relatively cool. Like Dennis Henry, the only gripe I had was the inability to Plug and Play. This would be accomplished on occasion, but most of the time I had to restart the computer. I found an easy solution for this, that doesn't require rebooting. If you open the Device Manager and you highlight one of the devices, this will bring an icon on top right side: Scan for Hardware Changes. Clicking on that will bring the drive to life on a matter of seconds.
