Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Labtec VERSE 333 MON MOUNT MIC ( 980184-0403 )Customer Review: Skype without the headset Summary: 5 Stars
This little mic is working great with Skype and desktop speakers for voice chat. I had a cheap headset that was a pain to take on and off for calls, so I found this replacement to sit on the desk. It picks up my voice very well once positioned correctly, and listeners say they here minimal background noise.
For the purchaser, remember that positioning is important. You can't point external speakers at the mic, or your listener will hear significant feedback. This is not the fault of the mic. Also, getting this a little bit away from your keyboard may help if your a noisy typist; it's sensitive enough that hard keystrokes may drown out your voice if you're multi-tasking on a call.
Overall, a great solution when you need an easy and cheap microphone solution. I would definitely recommend this over your standard headphones+mic setup.
Customer Review: Excellent quality - and no battery required Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using this mic for a couple of years to record round-table conferences, hearing room situations and phone depositions - sometimes from distances of 15-20 feet or more! The only wear and tear I've noticed is that the sticky underside of the mic, which helps keep it in place on a surface, has partly torn off. Not really a problem.
The sound quality is equal to, if not better than, more expensive mics I have, some costing over $A200.
The added bonus with the Labtec 333 is that no battery is required, which means: a) you don't have to remember to turn mic on or off; b) no fretting about replacing batteries or not being sure if they are running low; c) no unwanted feedback into some equipment, sometimes caused by powered mics.
Pricewise, I personally don't think there's a better mic on the market.
Customer Review: Does not work for Mac Pro (the tower) Summary: 1 Stars
As of now, I'm still trying to figure out if this works for an Quad-Core Intel Mac Pro running Mac OS X (10.5.8) and the verdict so far...No, it does not work. The mic seems simple enough. One plug from the Mic connects to the Mac via the plug in the back of the Mac. Done.
Then you go to System Preferences and fiddle around with the Sound panel specifically the Input. Two options "Line In" and "Digital Out". I tried both and nothing. I even tried Output just in case I didn't understand if a mic was an "output" but again that'd be a "Does Not Work" either situation.
Maybe I'm missing something. This doesn't come with anything else besides a registry piece of paper so there's no driver or installation cd.
So until this works, it's a one star for this Mic.
Customer Review: Small and Practical. Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this mic for my laptop because of its size. It works very well. Sharp, clear sound without much static. No need to look further if you are looking for a mic that's travel size and for ordinary daily use.
Its got adhesive on the bottom and a decent length of cable so you can stick it where you want it. Since it would be a little hard to attach it to my laptop, one option i've come up with is to stick velcro on the bottom of it so that I can easily remove it when I close my laptop. The other option was stick some sort of clip on it so that I can attach it to my shirt when I use it.
The only thing I don't like about it is that the paint they chose to coat the mic in makes it look like cheap plastic...and its not the prettiest silver color I've seen.
Customer Review: Recommended only if sitting close to it Summary: 3 Stars
Pros:
It's less than 5 bucks.
Voice capture is decent.
Super long wire (5+ ft?)
Cons:
Weak unless boosted
Extremely limited range (2 ft or so to be audible)
For the price, you should know what you are getting into before reviewing. That said, it will pick up sound within a short distance. This isn't a problem for me because I place it at the edge of my desk, which is within 2 ft of my face. The device hears my voice just fine, but don't expect it to record music or anything. All in all, if you need to do simple conversing with others, it should be OK
