Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech V220 Cordless Optical Mouse for Notebooks (Dark Silver)Customer Review: I Love It! Summary: 5 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I'm running Windows XP on a Dell laptop with one of those touch pads, which I hate. This mouse made working on my laptop a breeze. The set-up is simplicity itself: Put the battery in the mouse, put the receiver in a USB slot, and you're ready to go. No software to download. No CD program needed to run. This is truly "plug and play."
I've been using the mouse for a few hours, and it has worked flawlessly. It reads the receiver from more than ten feet away, and it doesn't matter if you're a lefty or a righty, or where the USB port is on your computer.
I also plugged it into my desktop computer, and it works better than my wireless Microsoft mouse. It's more responsive, and has a better center click wheel.
Plus, for travel convenience, the receiver fits into a slot on the bottom of the mouse. It's a good fit, so you won't have to worry about the receiver getting seperated and lost. Plus, when you insert or remove the receiver, it automatically turns the mouse off or on, preserving battery life and making sure the mouse is active only when you are.
The mouse feels comfortable to hold and use, and slides nicely over various sufraces, including my desktop, mouse pad, the floor, and it even works on the palm of my hand.
Great product.
Customer Review: Another wire removed with a good Logitech product Summary: 5 Stars
I selected this mouse as a solution to the placement of the USB ports on a recently acquired ASUS laptop.
The port where right-handed users are most likely to plug in a mouse is at the front of the keyboard tray on this computer. Result: you are likely to find the mouse wire in the same area where you might want to use the mouse.
With no Bluetooth capability, a wireless mouse became the solution (plug the wireless transmit/receive unit into a USB port on the left side of the computer...and the mouse wire is no longer an issue).
This mouse was recognized immediately by Windows 7. It accepted basic adjustments through the Windows control panel. The full "Setpoint" mouse utility software was easy to find on Logitech's site, and I recommend downloading it to gain more functionality of the VT 220 (and especially for its center control wheel).
Even for users with large hands, this mouse should be easy to operate, primarily due to the rubber grips on the sides.
The bottom of the mouse is slotted to accommodate the USB transmit/receive unit for storage and travel. The storage slot is cleverly grooved to automatically turn the mouse's underside power switch on or off as you remove or replace the transceiver.
I've been using Logitech wireless keyboards and mice without a problem for over ten years; this model maintains that pattern of ease of use.
Customer Review: A mouse for a real 5 Stars
This device is in a class by itself.
It has a great design, wheel that
can roll backwwards & forwards, even
slide across test and is very well
made. The battery is cleverly hidden
under THE HOOD which opens from a
little latch underneath. It has an
auto shut off featuer which is also
turned off by inserting the USB
receiver key underneath for storage.
It uses an invisible laser which is
quite powerful and has an excellent
communicative ability no matter
where the mouse is as long as you
are in the same room. No one will
ever think of this but if you are
giving a presentation you can use
this mouse to operate a hidden
laptop out of sight yet sit right
in the same room with the viewers
that are watching your presentation.
Most people would need another
monitor and a second person to do
this operation. That is why I say
when asked I would take a mouse
instead of a man, lol.
This mouse is an EXCELLENT item
for anyone who wants to still be
connected without a wire.
It even came with a high quality
Duracell battery that was alkaline
quality. That means business for me.
A great choice for a mouse.
Customer Review: Logitech V220 Cordless Optical Mouse for Notebooks Summary: 5 Stars
I bought two of these at Christmas time, one as a gift for my wife for her Dell 4100 desktop PC and the other for my IBM ThinkPad laptop computer. We have struggled with a couple wired mice over the years and had enough of the dust balls invading the mice. The Logitech V220 had numerous good reviews and the price was reasonable, especially with free Amazon shipping. They arrived soon after ordering and were put into service on Christmas day. Installation was plug and play for the receiver into a USB port. There is a download available for adding additional features. The mouse can be configured for various buttons. The mice came with an alkaline AA battery for each. Some of the reviews indicated battery life of up to 6 months. One of the mice lasted about one month. The other is still working 2 months later. I was curious about the current consumption as a retired electrical engineer and was able to measure the current on each. It turned out the current draw was identical for the two so I concluded the supplied batteries were not equal when purchased new. The mouse draws about 100uA static and about 14mA when in use. If the USB receiver is piggybacked onto the mouse when not in use the mouse is shut off completely, it appears. The performance is great, no problems. The Dell desktop has the USB ports in the back and I was concerned that the location might affect the wireless path but it turned out it worked fine. I would recommend this unit to all. There is no need to spend more on laser units.
Customer Review: There are better options for the price Summary: 2 Stars
I've had this mouse for a long time. It has worked fine, but has never quite impressed me. The mouse is very small, and for someone with big hands, this has been an issue. It glides adequately on surfaces but sometimes gets hung up. Accuracy has been stellar, and the scroll wheel is adequate (it's a click wheel).
My biggest complaint, however, has to do with the design of the mouse with regards to the USB dongle. It sits in the bottom of the mouse and automatically turns it on when you remove it. I always carry this mouse around in my backpack and bring it out when I need to use my laptop. The problem is that 50% of the time I take it out of my backpack, the USB dongle has fallen out and has inadvertently turned the mouse on. That means that my battery is completely dead, even when it was brand new the day before. This has happened to me SO many times I've lost count. And yes, AA batteries aren't crazy expensive, but unless you have a bunch of spares with you, the mouse becomes useless.
I've always been a huge Logitech fan, but for the price, there are much better options that now include nano receivers instead of these huge USB dongles. Check out Logitech's v450 nano (about 10 dollars more), or their VX Nano (a recent sale had these at the same price as the v220), or for top-of-the-line, their new Anywhere MX (usually between forty and fifty dollars after rebate). Or for the same price, try Verbatim's 96901 Nano mouse in various colors.
