Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of LG BD270 Blu-ray Disc PlayerCustomer Review: May Need Firmware Update Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the LG BD270 several months ago from Amazon.com. It performed flawlessly for months until last month when I received new B-Ray disks. The Paul Simon Gerswin Prize Concert and a B. B. King B-Ray disk would not play. I returned those to Amazon.
Today I received Collective Soul's "Home" B-Ray disk and that too would not play. That was when I checked the reviews for the player and found out that others have experienced the same problem. It appears that the LG BD270 does not recognize newer B-Ray disks and will need firmware upgrade. I'll keep my Collective Soul disk for a future player from another manufacturer.
UPDATE:
I've received the firmware from LG Corp. It took about 5 minutes to update, and alas, my Collective Soul disk plays so beautifully. I'm going to reorder the Paul Simon BluRay disk I returned to Amazon.com
Customer Review: Locks up frequently Summary: 1 Stars
I found this player VERY temperamental. It would lock up about 40-50% of the time on both BRs and DVDs. By lock up I mean stop dead in its tracks not allowing the disc to be ejected. This ALWAYS required unplugging the player in order to allow the disc to be ejected. I have tested at least 7 discs that have locked up the LG player but played on my Sony BR player with no problems. I have old DVDs from 10 years ago that play fine and brand new BRs that will not even load on this player (though they all play fine on my Sony machine). I can only infer from this, that problem is with the LG player.
On the good side I really like the remote control for this unit. When a disc does play the remote is very user friendly.
My advice: DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT. Personally, I will never buy another LG player no matter how cheap compared to the competition.
Customer Review: Great Value for the $$ Summary: 4 Stars
I got this blue ray player several weeks ago, and I'm very pleased with it. This is my first blue ray, so I don't have anything to compare. The picture quality is much better than my older DVD player, and you can definitely see the difference with BR movies. I do notice some picture quality improvement with regular DVD's, but it's not a huge difference. Sound quality is much better than my old DVD player ... I noticed that right away. Set up was a breeze! I haven't uploaded any firmware yet and the player has played every BR movie I've loaded. Loading time is acceptable ... a bit slower than my old DVD player, but not by much. I don't really care much about internet access or netflix, so I went with a bisic player for my first blue ray. And I'm happy with it so far. I've owned other LG products (incl. a LG LCD), and I think the quality is very good.
Customer Review: Really GREAT Blu.... Summary: 5 Stars
Don't spend to much on a blu ray player... This little has everything....
If you have an HDTV only need a hdmi cable and you will be ready for run....
Some people complaint about the lack of component video out, but, in my personal opinion if you buy a blu ray player you want to get high definition therefore you would have an HDTV; why you need the component video out instead ??
Another issue are the blu ray profiles. This GIANT is profile 1.1 that's means that you can use bonus view features on blu ray discs. The next profile is the 2.0 and you need to stay connected to the internet to use bd live features. For me is not necessary the online material broadcasting using profile 2.0, just i want to see movies and see the optional features on the disc.
Enjoy this GIANT, you don't make a mistake chosing it.
Customer Review: good at first - HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS UNIT Summary: 1 Stars
Third unit and still same issue!
Unit played fine for a month then started locking up mid movie - blueray or DVD.
Warranty only 3 mo full then 12 mo parts - 69 bucks for their repair center to work on unit. Sony and other mfg full year on parts AND labor!
customer service at LG not helpful, took threats to go the attorney gen and AMAZON to compel them to honor the warranty.
3rd unit and same problems exist!
On its way back for another "repair" only 4 months old! maybe 4th time is the charm
I highly do not recemmend this unit.
Check reviews of those that have had the unit for a while to get the real issues...Not a value in the long run!
Sony may not have as many whistles and bells but works consistently and does offer a real warranty if you have issues
