Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of LG BD270 Blu-ray Disc Player

Customer Review: worst player and experience from customer service
Summary: 1 Stars

I opened the player up and connected to a tv just to make sure it worked.

It played regular DVD's great.

I tried to play a blu - ray and none of them I tried would play at all.

I then went to LG's website and downloaded the player's update and then updated the player. Still nothing.

I called LG's customer service and they seemed clueless.

So their plan was to send me a mailing label to ship the player back. Then they said the tech would take 7 to 10 days to determine if the player can be fixed or if I will get a shipped a new player.

I received the labels after 6 days which is horribly slow only for them to pay for only 3rd rate Fed EX ground shipping. So, now do I not only do not have this for a Christmas Gift, I'm looking at the end of Jan or beginning of Feb 2010 before I have a working player.

LG's customer service is the worst I've seen since Comcast.

Customer Review: great blu ray player for the money
Summary: 5 Stars

I believe I am the first to review this product. At first, I was a little hesitant to buy, because I have not heard any comments from other buyers. Currently, I am a very satisfied customer. Blu-ray playback and regular DVD playback are excellent, fantastic picture quality and amazing sound. It has all of the Dolby TrueHD and DTS MA HD audio decoders. For those with older AV receivers like mine, it comes with a digital coaxial jack instead of the newer optical. The best feature of this player is that I have encountered zero skipping or other playback issues. I had originally bought a Samsung BDP1500, and it was absolute crap, could not play half of the blu ray discs and had multiple menu navigation issues and functionality issues. This LG has none, and I am quite suprised that this entry level model is EXcellent. I highly encourage others to buy. The only gripe I have is that the price is now $20 lower than when i had purchased.

Customer Review: LG Blu-Ray BD270
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an excellent entry-level Blu-Ray player. The colors are excellent and the picture is crisp connected to my Samsung LCD television via the HDMI port.

Disc loading time is minute as the Blu-Ray loads up almost instantly. I recently upgraded from a Philips regular DVD player to this LG BD270 and there isn't even a comparison. I've heard of Blu-Ray players with a lag time for loading but I have to say that this is 10x's as fast as my regular DVD player load time.

I highly recommend this player to anyone interested in owning a great Blu-Ray player. Although the player is not BD Live compliant, LG still deserves to be commended for releasing an affordable alternative to the price-conscious consumer.

I have played movies as new as Transformers 2, and GI Joe which just came out yesterday and I have had no issues that I needed a network cable for updates.

Customer Review: GREAT VALUE EZ USEABLILTY
Summary: 5 Stars

I had previously bought a BLU RAY Player from a TV Shopping channel for more than twice what this cost. Took over 6 minutes to load and was extremely confusing as to how to use it for first time owner. I watched 3 discs and gave up..... It sat there for a month and then I saw this LG as a Gold Box and read reviews and decided to try. I now watch Discs every night, have pratically gone broke buying new ones from Amazon both Blu Ray and reg (since the player upgrades them to almost blue ray quality). I was hardly back in my chair before the disc started playing. Although the price is a slight bit more now than I paid if I had to do it again for some reason I would in a jiffy. This is a BASIC player. No internet connecitvity and if you have younger folks in household you may want to go to the higher end model but for me I just want to watch my own discs and it is more than enough for me.

Customer Review: A Lemon
Summary: 1 Stars

Please, do yourself a favor, don't buy this LEMON. The LG BD270 blue-ray player is a piece of caca.

When I first bought it on 11/30/09 it worked fine, it played some blue-ray DVDs by fits and starts. So I decided to solve the problem by updating its firmware at the LG website. No problem, I did that, and it started playing some blue-ray DVDs for a while.

The next day it played none of the blue-ray DVDs I fed it, despite the fact that my brother's SONY was able to easily play the same blue-rays.

Today I called LG at the number painted on the unit and I was told that, since the unit is still under the 90 day warranty, I can send it back to be repaired--for the nominal fee of 69 dollars. Taking into account that I paid 119 dollars for it and that the unit currently retails in some sites for $94, I would be mad to keep throwing good money after bad.
