Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of LG BD270 Blu-ray Disc Player

Customer Review: Very Happy
Summary: 4 Stars

I have had this player for about a month and gave it 4-stars on the assumption that the USB-2 port can be used to update the player. It would have received 5-stars accept that it is a replacement unit. The first unit was returned because of intermittent HDMI signal loss when playing regular DVDs.
This player is exactly what I wanted - something simple, inexpensive, updateable, and a good match with my LG TV. The picture quality is very good including the up-scaling.
When I read the Buyer Reviews for other Blu-Ray DVD players, I noticed that there was a direct correlation between added features and player unreliability. It is as though the manufactures have not yet worked out all the bugs and compatibility issues involving the added internet features. My recommendation at this time is that people buy a Blu-Ray player which only has the internet functions needed at this time. After all, you may not know what internet features will be available and what features you will want 5 years from know.

Customer Review: Blu-Ray Discs On Widescreen TV Still Showing Black Bars Top and Bottom
Summary: 3 Stars

I was looking for a name brand blu-ray player this holiday season to drop below $100 and this was it. It does not have a network connection so the auto-update of firmware, netflix or blu-ray live options are not there. Not really a big deal for me. There is a nice USB port on the front of the unit for firmware updates.

I don't recommend this player unless you plan to hook it up with a HDMI cable. Which you will have to buy separately. The cables that came with the unit were a joke.

The remote does not support very many brands of TVs so don't expect it to be a universal remote at all.

OK here is the frustrating thing: I have a 1080p Plasma TV and I have everthing hooked up with HDMI and I am still getting the black bars at the top and bottom of my screen. I've dropped in a dvd and it upconverted perfectly and filled the whole screen. What the heck!?! I've been thru every menu option (there aren't many) and I can't figure it out. Oh well. You get what ya pay for I guess. =)

Customer Review: Was dissapointed, returned it
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought this on black Friday because it was for sale on Amazon for $99. Initially I was very happy with it, it's simple, easy to set up, and upconverted DVDs well. I knew it didn't have netflix or any other online streaming when I bought it so that obviously wasn't an issue (I used a Roku for that).

I started running into problems with Blu Rays rented from Netflix. Even on the new releases where I'm sure I was the first person to view the movie they would sometimes not start up and require me to turn off and then turn the player back on again. Sometimes they would jam part way through the movie. Anyways it was very frustrating and I decided that perhaps I needed a better quality player and get the Sony BDP-N460 on Amazon for $180. I am much happier with the Sony, I know that LG is usually great quality and my LCD TV is an LG but maybe I got a lemon with this player. Bottom line I would not recommend it, I think with Blu Ray since it's a Sony invention stick with Sony players for now.

Customer Review: Very nice item, and great price
Summary: 5 Stars

I also have the "top of the line" LG BD 390, and other than the internet/wireless stuff, it's pretty much the same player. Same features and quality for less than half the price. I only need one player that I can watch Netflix and Youtube on, and so this one is for my kids in the basement.

Very easy to set up. Literally, after opening the package, putting it next to the TV, plugging in the HDMI to my TV and the power cord to the surge protector, it took all of 3 minutes for my 3 year-old to start watching an extremely awesome picture of "Ant Bully" on Blu-Ray.

Of course, the price dropped 10 bucks the minute after it was delivered, but I still feel like I still got an awesome deal, and that anyone even considering a Blu-Ray player should add this one to the list. It is still cheaper thsn some of the upscaling players out there, and just as good or better. Obviously, if you want the wireless internet connectivity, go with the BD 390, which is still fairly reasonably priced.

Customer Review: Great "plain" Blu-ray player
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great player for the money.
I got mine on a cyber monday deal for $80. I should have bought 2.
the setup is very simple.
The menus are very easy to understand.
As soon as I unboxed it I downloaded the lastest firmware on my computer burned it on a cd and upgraded the player in a matter of minutes, you can also use the usb port to upgrade the firmware as well.
I have an older Samsung blu-ray player and the load times on the LG player are much faster.
If your looking to just watch movies then this player is what you need.
Its cheap and it works. The picture is what you'd expect, beautiful clear and crisp, and the sound is also great.
This player doesn't have all the bells and whistles of being online or being netflix compatible. If you just want something to replace your current dvd player and enter the world of blu-ray this is your chance. The player like all blu-ray players will play dvd's, cd's, burned dvd's etc.
