Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of LG BD270 Blu-ray Disc PlayerCustomer Review: Excellent Player, Better Price Summary: 5 Stars
The purpose of this review is to provide much needed information concerning this player. Prior to buying, I scoured the internet and could only find a few pieces of information here and there, so I thought it would be helpful to outline some of the player's features.
Technical Specifications:
- Profile 1.1 (BD BonusView Enabled)
- Front access USB port for convenient firmware updates
- Full HD output
- 7.1 channels of surround sound with Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby True HD, and dts-HD Master Audio technologies
- Digital coaxial output
- Express reaction startup
Does not include:
- An ethernet port or internal wireless device to access BD Live features
This is an excellent entry-level blu-ray player. The colors are vibrant and the picture is crisp connected to my Samsung LCD television via the HDMI port. Disc loading times are miniscule, with the player initiating playback in less than one minute. I have tested both recent and older blu-ray titles (Watchmen, The Prestige, Death Race) and have experienced no problems loading the disc or enjoying the non-BD Live special features. The unit itself is very sleek and slender and weighs less than five pounds. Additionally, the player is silent during use.
I highly recommend this player to anyone interested in owning a great blu-ray player at the low-end of the price spectrum. Although the player is not BD Live compliant, LG still deserves to be commended for releasing an affordable alternative to the price-conscious consumer.

Customer Review: Spending $100 should last at least a year Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased the LG BD270 blu ray dvd player on November 25, 2009, from Amazon. Total cost was $99.99. Approximately one week ago (mid June 2010), the dvd player stopped working. It would not recognize any DVD or blu ray disc that I placed inside it. An error message would appear and the player would eject the disc. After turning it on and off, unplugging, changing disc types, etc., I called LG (800-243-0000). By the way, the service number was also listed on the player. Perhaps that was a hint right there. After talking to "Bernard" and going through the various machinations that he wanted, he realized that yes the blu ray player is broken. At which time I would need to immediately pay $59 via credit card over the phone and he would make arrangements to send the player to Huntsville. Since "Bernard" knew my address and phone number, I confirmed that I submitted warranty information to LG. He said that LG covered the unit for 90 days and after that they would pay for parts ONLY and I would pay for labor and apparently $59 to start the ball rolling.
Please do not purchase this item. Reading the back of the unit, I discovered that it was manufactured in August 2009, purchased November 25, and died June 20, 2010. I'm not a rich person, but it would seem reasonable that if I or you spend $100 on an item, it should work at least one year. Just my opinion. I gave the dvd 3 stars because when it worked, I had no problems with operation, picture, sound. O stars for quality.
Customer Review: was fine while it worked...LG support a different story altogether Summary: 1 Stars
This is a basic player and as so performs acceptably. There is nothing outstanding about either its video or audio reproduction but there is nothing wrong with either. The loading times are acceptable. The video reproduction looks very high on contrast making it hard to see details on the shadows and blowing out the highlights. For a sub 100 price is not bad at all when it works. My unit only worked for about a month and then started intermittently shutting down until it stopped working all together. I called LG's customer support and they assigned a work number and told me they would be sending me some fedex shipping labels so I could send it to them and that the turn around should be about 7 to 10 days to get it repaired/replaced. A week later I called them again because I have not received the labels yet and this time they told me I would probably get the labels the following week and that the turn around would be three to four weeks instead. I told the rep that was not acceptable and he did agree and said he would be upset too but that was the policy of the company... when I asked to talk to a supervisor I was told they were all busy for the day so I would have to call the next day.
If the service would have been acceptable then this product would have a rightful place in the market, but with service like this is not...
Needless to say this is THE LAST LG product I'll ever own...
Customer Review: A GREAT BASIC BLU-RAY PLAYER Summary: 4 Stars
I am very happy with this blu-ray player. I really like that it lets me view blu-ray movies at an affordable price of around $100.
Although it does not provide the same features as other players (BD Live, Netflix or Amazon on Demand), the cost reflects this lack of options. This system plays blu-ray movies and that's it. Personally, I am happy to let a year or two go by and wait for all the great and innovative features that are being packaged into blu-ray players and then purchase one at a higher price. In the meanwhile, I get to enjoy the blu-ray enhanced movie experience this player provides.
This players keeps it's place in the movie, whether paused for long periods or turned off but it will not remember your place if the disc is removed from the player and then returned. Last week, it took a few tries to turn the player off. The power just would not shut off but then it turned itself off after a minute. This might be due to little fingers pressing the button to quickly and repeatedly. All seems fine a week later with no further issues.
I would recommend this basic player for people who want to enjoy blu-ray movies but not those with Netflix subscriptions or Amazon on Demand fans. Also, it will not allow you to enjoy the BD Live function found on some discs (allows you more access to the movie and cool interactive features).
Customer Review: Good player for the price I paid. Summary: 4 Stars
By the time all was done with this transaction I had this shipped for free and only spent [...] bucks on it. The week after I bought it the BD370 went on sale at Fry's electronics for [...]...go figure.
The player is almost as fast loading as they say it is but I sit down pretty quickly. It ejects quickly, as fast as any DVD player anyway.
I am using this nice player with a sceptre 32" LCD native 1920x1080 60hz. I sit close and it's quite clear. Actually the video is pristine when compared to my other players.
No jagged edges during Blue ray play back not even when up-converting DVDs. The colors are terrific of course. The audio is well represented. I only have a tiny Onkyo 5.1 set up with 55 watts per channel running digital coax from the player to my amp pushing JBL and Infinity middle of the road speakers that are a few years old but well matched. Obviously this is not the best thing to use however, I would now rather stay home and watch movies than go out, period. This blu-ray player does the job well, doesn't drain your account to do it and doesn't require you to have the best of the best to experience clean audio and video from Blu-ray media. If you don't need all the bells and whistles of the new 2.0 players and don't want to go into credit card debt then get this. If you do, just wait for the 370 to come down in price again.
Thanks for your time.
