Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Koss KTX-Pro Portable StereophoneCustomer Review: I didn't know what music was... Summary: 5 Stars
...until I discovered these babies. One day I was in town listening to my old but great Sony radio and the pair of cans that came with it just went out. Man, I thought. I didn't even get to hear the end of "Sir Mix A Lot - Baby Got Back." Well, after I recovered from that humongous shock, I noticed that I was beside a Radio Shack - the coolest place in the whole entire world. After telling 3 workers that I was just looking and didn't need help, I found these headphones. They were up on the front counter with a little tag that said they were half price. Well, that was just super-dee-duper, and I went ahead and bought them. Now, I was hoping that these would be pretty good since they had "Titanium" written on the side, and anything that has a big word on the side has to be good, right? Well, I was right.
I had been used to listening to music with the supplied headphones of the player that I bought. I never imagined that it could sound as good as this. I didn't want to say it because you all might not take me very seriously, but, who cares - ... I had never actually bought a good pair of headphones. Even if there are better headphones out there, my friend from school who bought a pair of fifty dollar headphones for his computer said these are better. After listening to his pair, I had to agree.
I have only had a couple of bad experiences with these. They broke after a week or two of use. Now don't go and start looking for a different pair thinking that these are flimsy, because I went right back to radio Shack and got a new pair. I have had this new pair for way over 2 years, and they are still going strong. I suppose that pair was just a bad apple or something. It's not that I couldn't afford to buy a new pair for 2 years - it's that I didn't need to. That is how good these are. The second problem is that they kinda hurt if I wore them for a while. I have glasses, so maybe that was the problem, but after a while, I could wear them without even noticing them. And the final problem is with the volume control. After a while of use, it can start kind of messing with the balance, ie. fading from one ear to the other. This has happened from ever pair of cans I've ever used with a volume control, so it was no biggie. If you leave it on the Max volume, it probably won't mess up. Keep in mind, this fading only happens when you are moving the control, not when it is stationary.
Aside from these very minor gripes, this is the best pair of headphones I have ever used. And I will keep on using them, just not as frequently, because I'm investing a large sum of money on the Sony MDR-EX70LP earbuds. I have gotten to like the convenience of having a pair of headphones in my pocket at school, and being able to unwind them and listen to them whenever. Please, consider these, because I assure you that they will provide you with probably 2 years or more of listening joy. ...
Description of Koss KTX-Pro Portable StereophoneTitanium layered diaphragm for accurate sound reproduction; Foam ear cushions for an open, hear-through sound; Adjustable headband with sling for a comfortable and secure fit; Volume control on the cord for easy level adjustment; Straight, dual entry 5 foot cord; Includes 1/8" and 1/4" stereo plugs for home and portable use; Frequency response: 15-25,000 Hz. Koss's KTX-Pro portable headphones affordably deliver intimate stereo sound with a frequency response rated at 15 to 25,000 Hz. Their titanium-layered diaphragm fosters accurate sound reproduction while open-ear, foam-layered earpieces offer less colored sound than a closed-ear design. This format, while ideal for home use, make these headphones less than optimal performers when used portably, as outside sounds tend to creep in more easily (and your music can be heard by others!). These lightweight stereophones feature an adjustable headband with sling for a comfortable, secure fit. An inline volume control on the KTX-Pro simplifies level adjustment. Koss also includes a straight dual-entry 5-foot cord along with 0.125-inch and 0.25-inch stereo plugs for versatile portable or home use. Koss's outstanding lifetime parts and labor warranty backs the KTX-Pro.
