Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Koss KSC75 Portable Stereophone HeadphonesCustomer Review: Buy SportaPro instead.... Summary: 2 Stars
There's a reason these go for $7.99, they sound like it. I was looking for a replacement for RadioShack Pro45's that broke(KOSS SportaPro's I believe) and saw all these reviews. I bought a pair. Not as loud as the Pro45's(harder to drive), bass distorts at slightest volume, bass all mushy otherwise, mid and highs are so unbalanced\overpowering. If I was to draw a freq graph of these it would like a mountain with the peak at like 8Khz with some kind of a sharktooth spikes in between 30 and 300hz. The worst part is that the bass interferes with the mids most of the time. Just terrible. Those other brands listed in the prior reviews must really be total garbage. The Pro45's have deep bass with good definition\fair transient response at any volume, the bass never interferes with any other freq bands, and are a lot louder for the small wattage challenged devices. The Pro45's do suffer from much less(read: more flat) mids and highs with irregular freq response, but what do you expect for $20 headphones. My solution is to just crank them louder to get the mids and highs to meet my tastes, while the bass, although over emphasised, just thumps through my skull never distorted or too mushy. Prevent mid/high hearing loss and get the SportaPros instead.
Customer Review: Great sound, not-so-great comfort Summary: 3 Stars
Agree with most of the reviews that Koss' titanium coated drivers sound great--though not as good, in my humble opinion, as the original (uncoated) KSC-35 drivers used in the infamous PortaPro. The bass is still there, but the KSC-75 highs are a bit "too" sparkly for my tastes. I don't know, the PortaPros just sound better to my ears. But these are still terrific lightweight drivers. They're great for the gym, because they fit any size head, and don't fall off like IEMs. They do take a few seconds to remove, though. But my biggest gripe is the fit on the ear. They fit like uncomfortable eyeglasses. The "clip" portion is just a bendable metal strip remarkably similar to the metal wire in your average chain-link fence. These metal strips are coated with a nice, thick layer of hard, translucent rubber, and to their credit, the clips do keep these bad boys on your ears no matter what. But you really start feeling them after about an hour. Sure, you can bend them to try and make them conform to the contours of the backs of your ears, but you'll never get it just right, and eventually they'll start to get uncomfortable again. I know some folks don't even feel them, so maybe you'll get lucky. I'm not one of them, though.
Customer Review: Fantastic sound in a small package at a great price Summary: 5 Stars
I own a set of Koss PortaPro Headphones, which are arguably the best-sounding portable headphones on the market. Despite their portability, they have become my favorite "at home" headphones as well.
Recently I decided that I wanted something smaller and even more portable than the PortaPros, for when I'm taking walks, on the train, etc. I hate "ear bud" style headphones, and wanted something without a head band. After doing some research, I found the Koss KSC75 portable 'phones. I wasn't sure how good they would be, considering how low the price was, but figured I'd give them a shot anyway.
What a pleasant surprise!
These small, lightweight headphones sound nearly as good as my PortaPros, and are even more comfortable. Best of all, I can wear these while wearing a hat or a baseball cap, which wasn't really possible with the PortaPros. They're also a bit more inconspicuous than the PortaPros, which are kind of difficult to conceal.
I'm so happy that I found these, and I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants a small, light, comfortable headphone at a great price!
Customer Review: Thank goodness I found these! Summary: 5 Stars
I have been going nuts trying to find a decent set of headphones for my new iPod. All I wanted was decent sound for a decent price, but after trying various models of ear-buds and standard phones and returning them all I figured I was going to have to shell out some big bucks after all. But, then I decided to pull the trigger on some cans made by a great old company from my youth that used to be THE only choice for headphones- KOSS of course! And man- they still have it. These aren't the greatest phones I've ever heard, but for $20 (and it seems you can now get them for half that!) they easily compare to some well-known sets costing 3 times as much or more. Finally, no awful hi-mid peaks that threaten to end my career as an audio engineer *cough cough Sony cough*. They are fairly comfortable- I think I would rather have the traditional over-the-head band but you get used to these pretty quick. These sound nice, full- the bass doesn't thump like a lot of people like but to my ears it's smooth. And most important, you can listen for hours without ear fatigue. Without a doubt, these are the best budget phones I've ever owned! My bottom line- anyone who doesn't grab these for $10 bucks a pop is insane. Period *g*
Customer Review: Excellent Koss Sound Summary: 5 Stars
These sound incredible like every Koss product I own. I don't know how they do it at the price point they sell them for. I own a set of Koss Portapro's and a set of Senheiser PX - 100's probably the best 2 phones out there regardless of price. These do not dissapoint, they are right there with those 2. They are extremley comfortable (at least to me) in fact the most comfortable I've had in a clip on style. The only dissapointing thing to me was that I was under the impression they had an in line volume control (THEY DO NOT!) so if that means a lot to you take that into consideration before you purchase. It was a minor thing to me and they sound so good I don't care. Plus Koss sells a volume control you can add to any phones if you need one that badly. I also own a set of Koss spark plugs which are the best bud style I've owned. and a set of the Koss $4.99 all purpose phones from Wal-Mart. Even they sound better than phones costing way more. plus thy even came with extra ear cushions and they do have an in line volume control. All Koss products have an unconditional lifetime warranty. $6 will replace any set you own no matter the cost or reason. it's a no brainer, you can't go wrong with Koss. I'm a lifelong fan now.
