Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Koss KSC75 Portable Stereophone HeadphonesCustomer Review: O.K. But... Summary: 3 Stars
I bought these Koss KSC75 Headphones for my iPod Touch. I'm not very fond of earbuds which come with the iPod. The KSC75's looked very compact and portable, were very reasonably priced and got excellent reviews. When I recieved them and went about using them I found them difficult to get situated on my rather large ears. But figured that problem would go away after I got used to them.
I then plugged them into my iPod and brought up a few selections from my music portfolio. I listen to mainly Rock. The volume was set to a little past halfway. I noticed immediately that the sound was weak, so I turned up to full volume and listened to a few songs. The sound was still weak and I noticed some distortion and fuzziness. I was disappointed.
The Apple earbuds that came with the iPod sounded much better. Clear highs and punchy bass. Like I said I'm not a fan of earbuds as they kind of hurt my ears. So I had been using my Sennheiser HD 202 Headphones, which are not very portable. But they were the absolute best of the bunch and made my iPod sound like a concert wall of sound. The Sennheiser's are only slightly more ($22) than the Koss KSC75.
Anyway my seach continues for some portable headphones that sound as awesome as those Sennheiser's. Wish me Luck.
Customer Review: BUY THESE! Trust me!!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I did a ton of reading to find a cheap set of phones to carry with me if I wanted work on beats when I am away. My idea was to spend $100 on a set of phones and I stumbled on these. I have been around the music biz for a minute now, about 7 years. I have worked with pro's in their studio's and recorded myself and recorded for them. I have heard quite a few sets of phones and these are right up there with anything I have heard. They are as clean as sanheiser's $100 set, and have the bass as good as any sony d.j. pair I have used. I figured for $20 the price can't be beat and it's not a big risk. So I got these today and they are amazing. I have to say that I knew I was gonna be impressed but compared to other pro phones, these are just sick. I am going to use these for secondary monitoring and already bought a second pair for the booth. BUY THESE HEADPHONES! You are not wasting your money.
By the way for the people who said they are easily breakable I would have to tell them to learn how to put them on correctly. You have to put on the bottom of the ear piece that goes behind your ear first and then twist them on. The only reason you need to be careful is because it is metal and if you bend it too much it WILL break. The more you stretch metal the more brittle it gets.
Customer Review: A great buy! Summary: 4 Stars
I just got these in the mail, and I've got to say that for the money, it's really hard to do better. These sound excellent. I'm a self-described audiophile, and I'm very picky about headphones.
First, the practical stuff - they're a little cheap-looking, honestly, but the rest makes up for it. They're very light, and hold to your ear quite well once they're on. The cord seem decently sturdy, although I've not put it to much testing yet. The earpieces are mostly metal with rubber cushioning, which seems durable. The padding is comfy and thick.
Now, the sound - impressive for this price range! Clean, crisp bass - a little bit too much for my preferences, but it blends well - it's not over the top. The highs aren't as airy as I'd like them to be, but they're still quite clear and have good definition. Overall, though, I'd say that you'd have a hard time matching these for the money. These will be my running headphones from now on. Just fair warning, though - they do leak a good bit of sound, so don't plan on using these in quiet places near other people.
I give it a 4 because they're not perfect, but they make a darned good effort to be! Especially at the cheaper prices of some of the other vendors, these are worth the money.
Customer Review: Excellent for my purpose Summary: 4 Stars
Hey, I'm not an expert on headphones. I'm not a professional, and I barely know the difference between the brands. Just wanted to get that out of the way.
That being said, I love music, and I love listening to it. I hate earbuds because they make my ears sweat. These things are great. I don't run or anything - I sit in an office. But I need headphones, and I need headphones that are comfortable but don't block out ALL sound (who knows who's going to knock on my door). These are great. I don't listen to them terribly loudly, but they have good depth. The bass isn't overwhelming, you have to turn it up to hear the super low pitches, but most of my music doesn't even go that low. So yea, these aren't as powerful as the sub in my car, but I'm very happy with them. :)
Obviously if you're looking at these kind of headphones you're not looking for professional DJ-quality headphones. These are not that. But if you want an inexpensive pair of comfortable, good quality casual headphones these are them.
I can't say much about how they work for running or anything like that, but I do find them very comfortable (which says a lot, because I'm very picky about how headphones fit - I have big ears that squish easily).
Customer Review: Still a real "Best Buy" Summary: 4 Stars
I have both the original KSC-35 and the KSC-75. Both have similar sound, using the same titanium driver as the PortaPro; however I feel the KSC-35 has a more natural sound. It has better bass and cleaner highs.
I have heard some people say they find the KSC-35 uncomfortable and the KSC-75 comfortable. I find exactly the opposite, which I why I gave them a lower rating. I have smaller ears that lie closer to my head and the rubber coated clips on the KSC-75 separate my ear from my head too far. The longer I wear them the more pain I feel. An hour or so causes a few couple of discomfort to my ears. Because the KSC-35 has a narrower clip, I find them effortless to wear. However there is a seam that runs along the edge of the clip that can be sharp but after a few passes with a nail file they are completely smooth.
If you want great sound in a cheap package, Koss has your answer. These are great pocket headphones that won't irritate your ears or your wallet. If you don't like clip-ons, then I recommend the PortaPro. They are the best headphone bang for the buck, period. I've had mine for 25 years and love them more today than ever. Either way, you won't go wrong, just remember to ask your ears how they feel about it too.
