Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Klipsch iGroove SXT iPod Sound System (Black)Customer Review: Five star quality sound for iPods, but not iPhone 3G friendly Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this sound system in December 2007. It was a replacement for a JBL OnStage. The sound was deeper and richer. It fills a room despite it's small size. Bass is what you would expect from a system this size, but it's no competitor for a true sound system with dedicated bass.
I've used this unit with my iPod Nano, iPod Video, and iPod Touch with no problems in sound quality and features. The unit also charges those products through an internal firewire connection.
Using the unit with the iPhone 3G has problems. First, because the iPhone is a cellular device, it produces noticeable interference unless you switch the iPhone into Airplane Mode, which turns off Wi-Fi and cell phone features. My iPod Touch did not produce interference from the Wi-Fi so I'm assuming it's only coming from the cellular connection. Second, the iPhone 3G removed the internal firewire connection, so the Klipsch system does not charge the iPhone 3G because charging is only accomplished through the USB connection. Other than those two problems, music plays fine through the Klipsch system.
One thing that could have made the product better was to have an RF remote instead of IR. I use this product at work and the use of fluorescent lighting limits the range of the remote to just a few feet within line of sight.
Customer Review: Not Bad Summary: 4 Stars
I've been using the new iGroove SXT and I am impressed. I have never used the original one but I can imagine they are similar. They both have dual 2.5 woofers and this one has a .75" tweeter as opposed to the originals 1". This one has some of the same flaws I read about in some of the original ones reviews. It has excellent sound at low and mid-high ranges is very good all the way through the volume range with noramal songs, but, with bassy songs at high volumes you get distortion and it's not always pretty. Alot of it can be fixed with the EQ function on the iPod though. I have cruised many of the local electronic stores and can say this one slaughters most of the competition when it comes to clarity, volume and a real life presence in the sound. The mm50 by Logitech can't touch it. The Bose is clearer at high volumes. The altec is as loud but not as clear. Many others like the On Stage II, iHome, iLove, Logitech's and many others aren't even in the same category. This one is much better. The original Klipsch is probably a tad bit louder, by the specs, and is selling dirt cheap right now. But, this one is smaller, has an s- video output and is much better looking, looking more Bose like. This SXT can also be set to turn on with the iPod's alarm, unlike the original Klipsch iGroove.
Customer Review: Alert for New iPod Owners Summary: 1 Stars
I heard this speaker system at a big box electronics store and was impressed. It was the next best thing to a Bose -- great sound, half the price. I asked if it would be compatible with my iPod. The employee said yes, and online reviews from reputable sources verified it, so I put the Klipsch iGroove SXT on my Christmas list. Well, when I tried my Christmas present yesterday, there were two problems. The unit powered on, but nothing I could do would coax the speakers to produce any sound. But that quickly became a moot point when I found out that it wasn't compatible with my 2nd generation Touch. The Klipsch folks say that this unit will play a 2nd generation Touch (theoretically -- I cannot verify this by personal experience since my unit appeared to be a lemon), but it won't charge the Touch while playing. As I understand it, Apple recently changed the charging on its newly-released iPods to pure USB rather than a USB/Firewire hybrid. This means that, at the moment, there are few speakers available that will charge the latest iPods while you listen. Too bad this news has been so slow in getting out. Until the manufacturers catch up to Apple's latest and there are more options, you might best be served saving your hard-earned cash and just using headphones.
Customer Review: Killer Sound Summary: 4 Stars
It's smaller and heavier than it looks, but it delivers greatly in the sound department with a nice bass and very clean sound.
I've had this thing for such a long time now, that I've encountered a few annoyances.
1. The volume button has no display to show how loud the volume is visually. This means that you have to judge from your ear. Considering that this is a portable device and that the volume resets after you unplug it, this volume display feature would have been useful to predetermine at which level would be loud enough to damage your hearing.
2. It's a portable device meaning it needs to be moved occasionally and I use it as such. I take it to work with me on the weekends and leave it in my car on the weekdays. After a few months with the thing, one of the screws holding the bottom stand in place started to unscrew itself. After screwing it in, it would unscrew itself again in a few weeks. I thought it was just that screw so I removed it and kept it aside. But another few weeks went by and another screw started to unscrew itself, so I screwed the first one back in again. The fact that I have to carry a screwdriver in my car for this is annoying.
Customer Review: Well Worth The Money Summary: 4 Stars
this is my first review for any item that I've ever bought from Amazon.
I've been searching for sound docks for over a month and even considered the Bose systems but was hesitant about the price. Then I came across this Klipsch iGroove! This system is compact and has great sound. The bass is nice and deep and the highs are good too. Even at high volumes, it does not distort. It fills up the room nicely. The remote has basic features (volume, skip, mute, & power). The range on it is pretty good.I use this system all the time and I would highly recommend this to anyone who is considering a sound dock that actually has great sound!
The Pros:
-Good Sound
-Compact design
-Affordable
-Comes with several adapters to fit any iPod (I can fit my iPhone or my wife's 1st Gen. Nano with no problems).
-EASY setup
-Simple to use
The Cons:
-Although it works perfectly with my iPhone 3G, it does not charge it.
-The battery on the remote died within the first 5 minutes of usage so I had to purchase another one (uses those small round expensive batteries).
