Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kingston DataTraveler 100 - 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive DT100/8GBCustomer Review: Big but awful slow Summary: 3 Stars
The Kingston 8GB stick is nice and small, gets cheaper every week, has a neat retractable USB plug, and has never given me even the hint of a glitch (unlike other sticks I've used). But... it's so SLOW. When you've got 8GB to fill, a slow transfer rate really grates - I've tried reformatting it from FAT32 to NTFS as some people recommend, and I'm currently reloading the files back on it - it's loaded 4GB in 2 hours 15 minutes, which works out at 0.5m/b per second - lower than USB 1.1 speed. I'm only ever going to use it as a backup archive - no way is it fit for everyday read-write use.
Customer Review: Take files to go in a Flash Summary: 5 Stars
This flash drive is a snap to set up, just plug it in a USB port and find a new drive letter in Windows Explorer. I even used it on a USB v1.1 port, which runs slower, but got the job done. The flash drive is 8GB of empty storage, there is no encryption software or other free stuff included... perfect for me, I didn't want ANY thing else. At under $30 this is a great device to move photos, music, and files. Heck, you could probably carry an entire encyclopedia around in text format! Oh yeah, the cats even kicked this flash drive around, and it still works perfectly.
Customer Review: Best flash drive I own! Summary: 5 Stars
This is the fourth flash drive I own and it is definitely the best. 8 GB offers plenty of storage space. The drive itself is compact, sleek and with the extendable/collapsable USB port, there is no worrying about losing the cap. The drive loads, saves, and ejects quickly. Also, a great advantage is that there are no unnecessary programs on the jump drive (like the Sandisk MicroCruzer) to waste space; there is omly 8 GB of memory waiting to be filled up! Kingston is reliable and this product doesn't disappoint; At $27 and change, this is a great product for a great price!
Customer Review: Small size, big benifit. Summary: 5 Stars
The little kingston 8 gig data traveler is a gem in itself. Small enough to fit alongside another flash drive in my laptop so that I can do two backups at anytime (important when you are writing two books at once, so much to lose)Large enough to do a quick save if the hard drive should start to go for some reason. Big enough for most anything, now that I think about it. Retractable USB port as well and we don't want to forget the extra small price in a brand known for quality. You may find better flash drives, but for the average person, why bother.
Customer Review: No complaints Summary: 5 Stars
I don't really have much to say. The only things I look for in a thumb drive is being completely blank (or be able to be completely formatted) to be rid of any preinstalled software, a reasonable design, and it not falling apart.
This drive gets a lot of use from me and is my primary that dangles from my keyring. The only complaint I have is that the push-out design feels pretty cheap now. I fear that any day I am going to squeeze it in the wrong way and it will break.
It hasn't happened yet so still no complaints, I guess.
