Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kingston DataTraveler 100 - 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive DT100/8GBCustomer Review: Awesome! Summary: 5 Stars
What I needed: Cheap, portable storage!
What I got: Exactly what I needed!
For those that have used a Sandisk Cruzer, this is very similar. It has a wierd area for a lanyard on the back (none of my current keychains work, but I just keep it in my pocket). It also has a green LED that lights up under the King's face when you plug it in. Decent write speeds...
At work, I downloaded the Windows 7 beta, Yellow Dog Linux, and Fedora Linux ISO files and put them on this thing and took it home. With my work computer (vista home basic) I think it copied at 70 MB/s... I love it, it's so worth the price.
Highly recommended.
Customer Review: Not as strong as it seems Summary: 2 Stars
At first I thought that this was a great product, I've had other kingston's in the past and this continued the trend. I'm not a fan of Sandisk so I thought I'd give another retractable a try, especially since this one has such high reviews.
Worked great for about 3 weeks, but then it started to slow down on transfer rates, not impressive in the first place. I'm rough on electronics, and unfortunately the plastic didn't hold up. On campus, people bump into computers all the time and one time was enough to break the plastic on this. It only worked for one day after that and is now useless.
So over-all I can't say I'm impressed.
Customer Review: 8 GB Data Traveler Flash Drive Summary: 5 Stars
The Kingston 8GB Flash Drive is one useful accessory. As an amateur photographer I use it to download photos onto and then install only the best of the lot on my hard drive, thereby conserving space. They can also be used to store items (such as dictionaries) that are on CD-ROM. They are so much more convenient than DVD and CD storage. I aready own and use a CF Card for my digital camera from Kingston, so I trust the name. The 8 GB DataTraveler confirmed my trust in Kingston products; it functions flawlessly. I would, without hesitation, purchase another one of their DataTravelers (in fact, I already have) so this product gets my highest recommendation!
Customer Review: Unreliable Data Storage Summary: 1 Stars
I have been using this particular jump drive for several months now and am quite unhappy with it. I use it as the primary storage of important files that I like to keep with me so I can access them at work or at home. However, it has happened several times now that one or more of my files have become corrupted. Luckily, I back it up regularly on my PC's hard drive so I haven't been totally hosed. The previous jump drive I used never had this problem. I'm also not thrilled about how it retracts into the housing, leaving the end open for dust and/or dirt to get into the USB connection. Better to find a product with a real cap to cover the end.
Customer Review: Great item for a great price Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this flash drive because I filled up my 2GB Kingston Mini-fun drive and I needed additional storage. I use a Mac at home and a Dell PC at work and this drive works seamlessly between the two. One feature I love about the all the Kingston drives I have purchased is that they do not come pre-loaded with software that pops up and prevents you from fast access to files. I also like that it is retractable (no caps to lose). The only thing I don't like about it is way in which the drive could be hung from a string or keychain. I would recommend this drive for anyone who want an uncomplicated flash drive that does the job.
