Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kingston DataTraveler 100 - 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive DT100/8GBCustomer Review: Kingston DataTraveler 8GB Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this device to transfer digital pictures made in the field and stored on my laptop computer to our desktop computer for processing and storage. This product performs this task very well. The transfer speed is what I have come to expect from a flash memory device. There have been reports that these devices may be slower than thumb drives with smaller capacities, but if so, the difference is not detectable.
The small physical size sometimes causes it to be difficult to find in the camera bag, but that is a minor complaint. There is a LED to confirm that data is being transferred, which some list as a desirable feature.
All in all, this device works very well to transfer raw and jpg pictures between computers with Windows XP operating systems. I gave it five stars because it satisfies my needs and to date, I find no specific faults to complain about.
Customer Review: Worked for a year... But that's it! Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this flash drive in December of 2008. For a while it worked fine and suited my needs, although I didn't like the slide design. Something about it felt flimsy. It was not until a few months ago that all of my files on the drive were destroyed. When I would open the drive up, I would get may weird symbols where my files used to be. In the end, I tried deleting the flash drive and then putting the files back into it. That worked for a while until the flash drive started not to work on Apple computers. I would plug it into the computers at my school and they would not recognize it. I have a Mac and PC at home and it didn't work on the Mac at home either, however it did work on the PC. But it took a really long time for it to load. Do not buy this product! They seem not to last very long. Now I have to by a new one because it is completely useless if I can use it on a Mac.
Customer Review: Big thumbs up (no pun intended) Summary: 5 Stars
A great product! Very inexpensive yet big storage capacity. I use mine primarily for playing DivX movies on my high def TV. My Philips DVD player has a USB port that I can pop this into. It reads it as if it were a DVD, supplying a generic menu of all movies contained on it.
This is only one purpose to which this flash drive can be put. My daughter has used it to transport files off my desk top onto her lap top. If I travel I put any files that I believe I might need onto it. The possibilities are very nearly endless.
I've not had any of the problems with slowness that others have complained of. I suspect the problem lies not with the Kingston drive but with their particular hardware set ups. I've used mine with no complications on several computers (both lap tops and desk tops) and on the one DVD player with no difficulties whatsoever.
Customer Review: Great product! Summary: 5 Stars
The Kingston DataTraveler is without a doubt, the best USB Flash drive I have ever owned. Not only does it have an absurd amount of storage capacity (8 GB) for less than $20, it has the BEST mechanism for covering the connector (a slide knob on the side that extends and extracts the connector into the plastic case) so I have no more plastic caps to keep up with!! I plugged it into my Dell laptop running Windows XP and it was instantly found by the OS and all of the drivers were installed so I could start using it immediately. My PanDigital digital picture frame also recognized it instantly and it works GREAT... no hiccups, glitches, issues, etc. I LOVE IT!! I have every digital picture I have taken over the past 3 years on the stick and use it primarily in my digital picture frame since I filled the internal memory and previous USB sticks were not big enough.
Customer Review: Good Quality, Large Capacity Flash Drive Summary: 5 Stars
This flash drive is a little larger legnthwise than my previous flash drive, though that is not an issue with me. It is a great price for 8 GB of space ($50-70 for 8 GB at Wal Mart and similar stores) and I like that the USB port is retractable so there are no caps to be lost.
The only thing I miss about my old 1 GB drive is that it had a bar on the outside that indicated how much space was used, this drive does not have that, you have to plug it into the computer to find out.
I like that there isn't a ton of software to install with it that I do not need, just the simple storage space, which is great.
It has no key chain ring, which some people don't like, but I don't travel with it that way so it was no issue for me. I think it's a great drive for the price, easy to use with a lot of storage space, perfect for a college student.
