Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kingston DataTraveler 100 - 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive DT100/8GBCustomer Review: 7 reasons why I love the Kingston Traveler Summary: 5 Stars
I've tried many other brands, and the Traveler is my favorite.
1) Big capacity. I bought the 8GB model, but they make bigger ones. Plenty of room for lots of photos, mp3s, etc.
2) The retractable connector feature is great. No more lost caps.
3) The price is right. I bought a couple just to have a spare around.
4) It simply appears as a removable drive when you plug it in. No built-in apps launch, and no "what should I do now?" dialogs appear. Just go to My Computer (PC) or the desktop (Mac) and open it up.
5) It works perfectly between my Mac and my PC.
6) It is lighter than the metal SanDisk, but is still very rugged.
7) So far, it appears to be very reliable. No lost or corrupted files.
Only one down side, not worth deducting a star: It doesn't come with a ring to attach to your keyring. No problem! Those tiny metal rings always get bent out of shape anyway. Instead of a metal ring, I use a thin nylon "wire-tie" or "zip-tie" (you can get them in the electrical dept of your hardware store). Just slip it under the post in the drive's case, loop it into itself, and cut off the excess. It is extremely tough and will not stretch or break from your keyring.
Customer Review: Perfect for large files and storing music Summary: 4 Stars
great product. Very simple and great for storing large files. I made three folders that store my documents, music, and pictures in this usb drive and it works great. Once pluged, it almost immediantly recognize it and is ready. My last usb drive in which I stored the same amount has errors and even with a capacity of 8 gb and I storing 2.35gb into it, it showed 3.47gb and has all these errors and had mess up my files. It was a PNY attache usb 8gb. Dont get that product for a usb drive, it messes your files if you put more that 500mb into one folder and corrupts the file. With this DataTraverler I am able to store large files without worry of corrupted files. Also the size is great being a 8gb. Also the tab on the side is great to pull up the usb instead of a cap on top. Simple design and simple to paste things in. Price is great and very cheap for a 8gb. I say get it. But its up to you. I see no flaws in it except of that the cover is platic. But does it really matter? Its not like its going to crack, its still pretty touch. I try bending it with my hands and it doesnt bend easily. Also I heard that kingston is a really good brand. If you need a 8gb usb drive for a cheap price that would last, this is the best drive around for that.
Customer Review: Best USB memory stick for your buck Summary: 5 Stars
Quite simply if you are looking to spend on a mid-range USB flash memory stick which you can quickly pull out from time to time from a computer bag pocket then this is where it is at. This Kingston flash memory stick is fast, holds 8 GB and comes at a very nice price. It is also very small, maybe one of the smallest sticks on the market. However it is delicate and doesn't come with a cap.
If you want a pro-stick and are willing to shell out two to three times the price, then go elsewhere. If you want a stick that will constantly go around with you in your pocket, go elsewhere for something tougher. If you just need a stick that you will use from time to time and can put away in your computer bag, then this is exactly what you want. Great price for the storage capacity and speed, but very light and not for constant use or pocket travel because it lacks physical integrity.
Pros
- 8GB!
- Ultra Cheap
- Small
- Light
- Fast
- Kingston
Cons
- Delicate
- No cap
- Almost all plastic except for the connection
Customer Review: Beware If Your Computer Is AMD With Win 7 64 bit Summary: 4 Stars
I brought it about 1 year ago when I was still using Intel processor and Win XP. The flash drive was working fine and wonderfully. It still works as usual if I plug it in those computers using Intel processors even with Win 7. However it doesn't work on computers with AMD processors with Win 7. I have no complain on this product when I bought it because it performed well and it still works fine in my old computer. But I have to inform those who owns an AMD and Win 7 64 bit computer because it won't work on it. I am not the only one who encountered this problem. I searched the web and found many other people who used AMD and Win 7 had the same problem. I went to the Kingston web site and hope to find a solution. I learnt that this model has already been discountinued. It means no support any more. It is the reason that I take one star off it. It is still a very good flash drive as long as you stay away from using it with AMD and Win 7 64 bit.
Customer Review: Had it for 3 months - just died on me. Apparently discontinued! Summary: 1 Stars
Avoid. Don't buy. Discontinued! It will die on you and Kingston will be VERY SLOW in honoring their warranty for a replacement. You will be without a drive for a while!
Just wanted to let everyone know that this drive, just over 3 months old, all of a sudden died on me. Totally dead, it will not be recognized by any system and therefore will not even mount so I could reformat it. It just simply died I think with all my data on it. Going to the Kingston site it shows that this model has been discontinued. I wonder why? Because it DIES ON PEOPLE?!?!? :-)
Also, be warned that Kingston is very unresponsive when it comes to honoring their warranty. I've been back and forth with them for almost 4 days now...
After several emails from Tech Support I have filled out the "request for replacement" form online under the instructions from tech support. I have received no response from anyone whatsoever.
