Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kingston 19-in-1 USB 2.0 Flash Memory Card Reader FCR-HS219/1

Customer Review: It works.
Summary: 5 Stars

The card reader is good, durable, functional. I don't get why the usb cord attached to the card reader is literally an inch long.. weird... but it comes with an extension usb cord... I think that's stupid but if it didn't, some ppl would be pissed about it. Anyhow, u really gotta push that "rolly pushy" part on top of the reader, watch the video. Sometimes I think it's stuck, but it's not, needs a bit of pushing. I like how durable this reader is. I bought another by some generic brand that cost me $2.00, $5.00 including shipping. That crap died on me on 5 usages. This time, I decided to buy this Kingston one.. it was a good price and it's durable! But I've seen smaller card readers so I was hoping that it would be smaller and thinner but u can't have it all! I would recommend this to anyone who's looking for a practical, working, durable, readable card reader.

Customer Review: Kingston Gets the Job Done...
Summary: 4 Stars

Shipping was expedient. Packaging was sufficient. Easy hook-up to my PC via USB plug. Windows Vista discovered the card reader and automatically installed the proper driver within a few seconds. I use this card reader primarily for SD data cards. I recently installed a GPS Navigation software with entire U.S. and Canadian maps on a 4 Gig card with no problems. This card reader has a blinking red light indicating active data transfer to your media card, and then stops when copy is complete. Another thing I like is this card reader has labels for each card slot to avoid confusion. I rated this item only 4 stars due to lack of proper instruction manual; i.e. before you plug into your PC, you have to slide the inside card reader to the end of its plastic shell until it clicks - strange construction. Other than that, I love it. Gets the job done!

Customer Review: Be Careful - Test the Fit of Your Memory Cards Before Opening Package
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this product because my previous card reader, which I used to download images from my digital camera, failed suddenly. I was impressed by the 19-in-1 capability and price. The Kingston arrived. I unpacked the reader, requiring me to slit the hard plastic package. I plugged in the device, took my camera's memory card in hand, and - the card doesn't fit any of the slots! Slots are either too big or too small.

Company send a cheery email thanking me for purchasing the Kingston. I replied the device did not fit my memory card. Support sent email advising me to contact company for return and refund information. I did so, filling out the online form. Company replied that because I had opened the package, a refund was not possible. Company has not revealed how I was to test the fit of my memory card without opening the package. :-(

Customer Review: Average Product
Summary: 3 Stars

This may be entirely my fault, but I purchased this product since it would accept 19 various formats. I only have a need for three formats (XD, SD, MMC), unfortunately this device does not accept the XD cards. Needless to say I am a little more than disappointed. The other issue I have is with the length of cable used to connect to the computer. You need to use an extension cable, which is another connection to worry about. The device works well with the other formats, but I still need to obtain one device to read all the formats I need. It appears well built, although I have only used it six times since purchase. I don't know how well the "slide mechanism" will hold out with repeated use over the years. I would have given it more stars in the "functionality" and "ease of use" sections, if not for the lack of an XD slot and the cable length.

Customer Review: Kingston Media Reader vs. IOGear 56-in-1 Reader
Summary: 4 Stars

Needed two readers for two PC's. Could not decide on the IOGear 56-in-1 or this Kingston Media Reader. Both about the same price and with mostly good reviews. So, I bought both.

Both do the job, but the IOGear is better.

Why: IOGear is a simple design with easy access ports and a mini-USB port (cable supplied). Kingston has a silly sliding insert design that serves no benefit and a VERY short, near useless, full-size USB cable built in (comes with extension). IOGear comes with very useful little download application that labels each port as to card type in Explorer. No such application with the Kingston. Both are essentially the same size. In principle, the IOGear handles more card types, but that may just be a type-counting difference.

Both work well, but the IOGEAR is a more polished design at same price.
