Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kingston 19-in-1 USB 2.0 Flash Memory Card Reader FCR-HS219/1Customer Review: EASY PEEZEY Summary: 5 Stars
After having several problems with our old SanDisk multi reader I decided I needed a new reader. I originally ordered the Sony Duo Pro Memory Stick that was advertised as coming bundled with a mini USB reader. When it arrived there was no USB reader so I called Amazon.com and they graciously gave me a credit to purchase this Kingston reader. It worked out great! I have a new mac mini and the SanDisk would sporadically work. The Kingston seems to have NO problem reading the Sony 16GB DuoPro stick and it was just plug it in, add the memory card, the gadget lit up and showed up immediately on my Mac computer screen. Faaaaaaast download and erasing old pics, too. I LOVE IT. Thanks, Amazon for making my day brighter.
Customer Review: Works Good - But Disappointed Summary: 4 Stars
This USB reader works great, for the cards that it does read.
However, to my surprise, even with 19 possible cards, it really is not 19, but up to 19 in certain configurations.
I was really disappointed to see that this does not read xD cards. I have an Olympus camera, and cannot use the reader with its cards. (My mistake - I did not do my homework on this very well.)
I am able to use it with my Compact Flash, Sony Duo, and MicroSD cards on my other digital cameras. I really needed it for the MicroSD, as my cell phone does not connect to my PC, to download photos.
Overall, it is a good product. Just make sure it works with all the cards that you have.
Customer Review: Great working product, but odd design Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this product to take care of the problem of everone at work asking me to download their photos, even though they each have different memory cards.
I found that the design is very odd. It has a garage door opener-type switch on the top which slides the chasis deep into, or flush with, the outer shell. Perhaps this is to protect the cards once they are in, but I though it to be very unnecessary.
This product did not meet the one size fits all challenger either. My coworker asked to borrow this and her memory card did not fit.
Aside from that, the Kingston is a reliable brand and this is a reliable product and it has really helped me out when I needed it.
Customer Review: does what it's made to do Summary: 4 Stars
No complaints here. This item functions as intended. It's fast at uploading photos from my CF card, and I like that it has other options so I can get photos from a friend off their SD or miniSD card. I really like the retractable feature (I feel like it keeps the contacts in good shape to be able to pull them into the unit), though using it feels a bit flimsy (pressing the button and pulling in the unit feels kind of like something's going to break, but nothing has). I also like that, though a longer USB cable is included, the default setup is a tiny cable even shorter than the USB input, which makes me feel more secure about it staying near my laptop and not getting dragged around by a pet or kid.
Customer Review: Total Piece of Crap Summary: 1 Stars
This card reader is junk, but I guess you get what you pay for. It worked fine the first time I used it, but that was it. The next time, the Kingston reader was dead as a Thanksgiving turkey, and for no reason that I could find. Between the first time I used it, when it worked, and the second time it was just sitting on my desk. But when I plugged it into my Mac to download Thanksgiving photos, it was as cold as the grave.
Naturally, I'm past the 30-day return period, so I'll keep the reader as a reminder that a cheap product that doesn't work is the most expensive thing you can buy. Be very careful before you purchase this -- it's a total waste of money, in my opinion.
