Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kingston DataTraveler I - 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive DTI/8GBCustomer Review: Good value for space, but slow Summary: 2 Stars
If your main need is to have something that can make 8 GB of files portable, then this is a pretty good value. If you are looking to use Vista's ReadyBoost function, this drive is too slow. If you are looking to run applications off the drive (like Portable Firefox or Disk Utilities), it is also incredibly slow - and you'll probably want to look for something that has faster rated reads and writes.
For my needs, this turns out not to have been the right drive. For you, well it depends on what you're using it for :-)
Customer Review: 8GB of storage for cheap Summary: 4 Stars
This pretty much does what it needs. The write speeds aren't fast, but aren't terribly slow either. I get about 6.5-8.5 MBps write and 20MBps read. I get this on both my laptop and PC, with both this 8GB model and the 4GB model as well. My USB can write @ 60MBps = 480 mbps to an external HDD, which is USB spec so I know it's not my USB. I can't use Ready Boost as it's not compatible with what I am using it for.
All in all, it's does what it needs, it's built sturdy and the cap seems to stay on pretty good.
Customer Review: Does what it should Summary: 4 Stars
This device works well, does what it should, what more could you ask??
It's colors aren't garish or ugly. The size is just right, it's not too fat or thick as some others are, so it allows you to use the other usb port that is right beside it, instead of blocking it.
It comes blank, there is no bloatware/software on it that you would want/need to remove, so you get it's full capacity. As for speed, there are some faster, but a lot that are slower, so this is a happy medium at a good price.
Customer Review: It's sorta flimsy plastic, but I'm not playing football with the thing Summary: 4 Stars
Very impressed with the speed and ease of this litte USB Flash Drive. I got it to transfer files between my Acer Aspire One netbook and my home computer. Excellent speed at copying and transferring.
The plastic does feel a little cheap, but I haven't had problems with it yet and it's extremely unlikely that I will be wrestling or playing football with it in my pocket. If you need your flash drive to withstand rough housing this probably isn't the drive for you. I'd buy another Kingston in a second.
Customer Review: Best investment ever Summary: 5 Stars
This was the first time I had ever bought anything online through Amazon.com, and I would say it was the best move I ever made. The Kingston Data Traveler 8 GB USB flash drive was not only in perfect condition when it arrived, but has come in extremely handy for my computer class homework. The best part was that it arrived so quickly at my home address that I didn't have to worry about whether or not I would have to buy one before I started my classes. Thank you very much.
