Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kingston DataTraveler I - 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive DTI/8GB

Customer Review: Great Device
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this 8GB Flash Drive to transfer small files to a remote pc and to carry files with me to share with a friend. It works well with MS Vista Home Prem... I took it out of the package and inserted it into my Dell Pc usb port and my computer found the driver and it was ready to work. So far I have used Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Vista OS's.
I was able to transfer files with no problems at all. I decided to get the 8 gb instead of the 2gb so I would have more storage and less Flash Drives to keep up with. This is a great device if you want to transfer or store data for a short time and without wasting a CD-R or DVD-R.

Only thing I wished that this flash drive had was a chain or a wrist strap. You can buy one or just store it in a storage case.

I have had this since Dec 2008 and paid $12.99 so it was a great buy.

Customer Review: Simple, Sturdy, Great Deal
Summary: 4 Stars

I'd also like to say that this withstood a wash & dry cycle--two actually--with the cap on of course. It's still running like a champ with no dings and no errors. I prefer the cap to the other methods of covering the USB port (slide-out, rotate, etc). It's sturdy and simple, nothing fancy here, and it doesn't include a brand-spattered lanyard or whatnot to make you look like a computer-geek... Which, by the way, I am, and I have to say that the big review about the "slow write-speeds for small files" does NOT affect the average user, because most people are not doing that. Anyway, I'm rambling.. The point is, Kingston & Sandisk are probably the 2 top flash-drive makers, along with the other memory companies (A-Data, Corsair, PNY), so pick the one you like (for whatever aesthetic reason, or for the inclusion/lack-of 'U3' software) and go with it.

Customer Review: No bloatware, no fuss!
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought the 8GB in anticipation of purchasing a netbook, and I have to say that the only way to improve it would be to make it retractable, rather than having a cap that you KNOW is going to get lost. If speed is of the essence for you, here are some sample transfer times:

Single File, 1.77GB - about 6.5 minutes
Single File, 3.5MB - almost instantly
Multiple Files, 133MB folder - about 1.5 minutes

All my files (graphics, video, MP3, MS Office, etc.) opened and saved just fine, and deleting the above batch took about 30 seconds. Wax on, wax off. Cap it 'n' go. The lightweight, sturdy plastic can go on your keyring, in your pocket or purse, and be there whenever you neeed it. Oh, and NO BLOATWARE. No evil files on your computer! I got mine directly from Amazon with no problems. I highly recommend it!

Customer Review: It ain't lickidity-split fast, but it's a good work horse
Summary: 4 Stars

My old 8GB flash drive was dying on me. I had to get a new one. The old was was a Kingston too. That's why I decided to buy another Kingston. The old drive worked great until it started to be a little bit flakey (drive would disappear from "My Computer"). I have had the old drive since Kingston introduced the 8GB DateTraveler II flash drive. That has been a while ago and I use the crap out of it too. I ain't easy on my puter toys. Anyway, I transferred the old data to the new drive via flash drive to flash drive. There was about 5.3 GBs to transfer. It took about 43 minutes to transfer all the files. Like I said, it ain't lickidy-split fast, but it will get the work done. The price was right, but kinda of wished I put put some extra money to buy the DataTraveler II. It is a faster drive. There, that's my two cents worth...

Customer Review: Simplisty is at its best with this!
Summary: 5 Stars

Pros:
[x]Very cheap for 8gb...
[x]Doesn't have that BullS*** additional software "U3".
[x]so that means more room for other IMPORTANT things.
[x]Doesn't install extra junk on every computer you use it with *cough* u3
[x] Much faster without the u3
[x] Nice and compact

Cons:
Didn't come with that string you attach at the end of the USB hub. like all the others do. even though it had a chain at the back FOR the string....still nothing was there to use it with. oh well

its a supra small thing, nothing to get all crazy about. im just glad that this doesn't have U3

it seems to be the ONLY simplistic USB out there.

FYI: the simpler the USB - more room you get to have to store your info
