Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kingston DataTraveler 100 - 2 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive DT100/2GBCustomer Review: Inexpensive Flash Drive - simple and easy to use Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this 2GB Kingston drive on 11/15/07 at my local electronic store for less than 20 bucks. This drive is simple, it has a retractable USB port to protect from dust; and no more looking around for lost caps that most flash drives tend to have. At 2GB, the actual usable space is about 1.9GB. Speed is pretty mediocre - I was able to move a 128MB file from my harddrive to the flash drive in about 32sec (4MB/sec transfer rate). Moving that same file from the flash drive to the hard drive takes about 8 seconds (16MB/sec). Both upload and download rate is slower than some benchmarks that I've seen on the web. However, it is acceptable to me, especially for the cost.
The other notable point about this drive is that it has *NO* software in it. So just plug and play. No annoying U3 software that people frequently complain about on other drives. If there is one big gripe that I do not like, it is that the drive is black in color. In the beginning, I didn't think it was a big deal, but after using it awhile, I'm starting to regret it because it blends so well with the background on my desk, making it difficult for me to grab it without looking. I would have prefer a red-color flash-drive next time so it can stand out a little more. Overall a simple functional drive and a great bargain.
Customer Review: Nice USB flash drive Summary: 5 Stars
Got this for under $10 with free shipping. Can't beat that! The drive has worked great! The retractable USB connector is really cool - no cap to lose! This drive is very slim so no problems with it fitting in the tightly spaced USB slots on the rear of my PC. Transfer speed is fine, but I'm no expert when it comes to flash media transfer speeds so YMMV. Worked great with both Windows XP and Vista (according to my son who used it to transfer a bunch of MP3's).
Since this product has worked fine, I've had no reason to contact Kingston's customer service. From past experience though I know that Kingston's CS is GREAT! In the past I've purchased RAM from Kingston and they very promptly responded when I had compatibility problems with a certain motherboard. They exchanged the RAM quickly (same day) with no problems and even paid for shipping both ways and sent me the return shipping packages and return address labels - all for no charge.
So I definitely recommend this Kingston DataTraveler 2 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive DT100/2GB and Kingston as a company for their excellent products and service.
Customer Review: Very cheap but very light but very cheap Summary: 3 Stars
Quite simply if you are looking to spend on a mid-range USB flash memory stick which you can quickly pull out from time to time from a computer bag pocket then this is where it is at. This Kingston flash memory stick is fast, holds 2 GB and comes at a very nice price. It is also very small, maybe one of the smallest sticks on the market. However it is delicate and doesn't come with a cap.
If you want a pro-stick and are willing to shell out two to three times the price, then go elsewhere. If you want a stick that will constantly go around with you in your pocket, go elsewhere for something tougher. If you just need a stick that you will use from time to time and can put away in your computer bag, then this is exactly what you want. Great price for the storage capacity and speed, but very light and not for constant use or pocket travel because it lacks physical integrity.

Customer Review: Kingston DataTraveler 100 - 2 gb Summary: 5 Stars
I had prepared a PDF genealogy book for my relatives, containing several volumes and totaling 1.7 gigabytes. I chose Kingston DataTraveler 100 to use to copy the PDF files, as I had used Kingston 1 gb previously and was satisfied with it.
I copied the book about 40 times for my relatives and not any hitches; and they all notified me of their receiving and downloading the books in good condition and ease.
I had tested the first copy a number of times to see if it would cause some malfunction, and it did not. But, I warned each recipient to immediately transfer the files to their computer instead of relying upon the unproven life of a flash drive some ten PLUS years in the future.
I had read other bad comments about other flash drives but found no unsatisfied comments re Kingston. I will continue to use them.

Customer Review: Affordable storage, just don't sit on it Summary: 4 Stars
I've been using this at work and it's been working great. I installed SystemRescueCD on it, so I can boot from it to diagnose computer problems. I also installed DSL linux on it, and there's still lots of room left for documents. The retractable connector is also good, since there's no cap to lose.
The only problem with this drive is that it's fairly flimsy plastic. Don't put it in a pocket where you might sit on it or lean on it or do anything else. Mine stays in my desk at work, so it's not a problem. If it's actually going to be traveling around with you, I'd recommend you get a SanDisk Cruzer Titanium which I'm fairly certain I could drive my car over without incident.
