Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kingston DTI/2GB Data Traveler 2 GB USB Flash DriveCustomer Review: Good speed and design, great price Summary: 5 Stars
It's a flash drive, much like all the others, so here are the few things that might distinguish it from the others:
- Good price. This is [edit: well, was, when I bought it] about as cheap as you can find a 2GB flash drive at the moment.
- Good speed. Mine gets 16MB/s read and 6MB/s write, which is well above what I expected, as the drive isn't marketed for its speed. I assume they change it over time to improve it (the model itself is ancient at this point, but mine has a December '07 manufacture date printed on the side).
- Good design. The cap can fit snugly on the back when it's plugged in, the activity light is *not* annoyingly bright, there is a spot for a small included lanyard (look inside the packaging! I almost missed the lanyard) to attach it to a keychain or similar, and overall it's an attractive design.
It's not as fast as others, certainly, but it also doesn't cost as much as those.
Customer Review: You could be better off with an 8GB Summary: 3 Stars
It's a good product and it's what I bought 2 years ago but, since then, the 4GB model and Kingston 8GB DataTraveler USB flash drive - High Speed USB have been released. It would make more sense to go for the 8GB because you will get 4 times the storage capacity without paying 4 times as much (check the prices). And, of course, it's the convenience factor.
However, if all you need is 2GB of storage then, by all means, get this one. The price is right and it works perfectly. I have a couple of these and I've been storing my tax records on them. The family album goes on the larger capacity model.
Customer Review: Slooooooow...... Summary: 2 Stars
tested the drive by copying a 897Mb file back and forth. While read speed was very good - around 16Mb/sec, write speed was horrible - slightly over 2Mb/sec. In comparison, my old 1Gb Lexar drive shows 8.5Mb/sec write and 11Mb/sec read.
Not to mention that there is a 15-20 sec delay between you hit 'copy' button and the actual copying dialog showing up.
Did test it on my desktop and laptop.
It may be just a faulty one I got, but this is my second negative experience with Kingston after purchasing their 2Gb miniSD card (also pretty slow).
Customer Review: More computer memory space Summary: 5 Stars
Computer users can always use more space! We got our both our son and daughter in law the Kingston DTI/2GBKR Data Travel GB USB Flash Drive for Christmas. They both use their computers ALOT, especially for music, which we all know is greedy for space. When my son said the drive was "perfect" I knew this was a great little gizmo! I had the items shipped straight to the kids down south and the package arrived in record time. They were happy! That's all I needed to know to recommend this item.
Customer Review: Decent 2 GB Flash Drive Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this drive to shuffle pictures and documents around during grad school.
If you can stand the yellow-green/white color scheme this is an excellent choice. It's not super fancy, but it does its job. There are no extra programs on it (like sandisk's U3)- just the drive.
It came with a tiny, tiny, flimsy string to attach the drive to a keychain. If you're prone to losing things, I'd invest in a larger, more robust lanyard.
Overall: good choice for price.
