Customer Review: Kingston 4GB Mac compatible RAM

I purchased the 4GB Kingston Mac compatible memory pack from Amazon.com concurrent with the purchase of a MacBook Pro 2.5 GHZ Core 2 Duo laptop. The same memory upgrade purchased from Apple would have cost $300. I installed the memory in approximately 5 minutes without special tools, taking care to follow the instructions in the online Apple manual for the laptop. The memory works flawlessly. I am quite satisfied with the purchase. I can't say if it voids my warranty, but it shouldn't. I also can't say if there's a difference in the performance of the Kingston vs. the Apple memory, but there shouldn't be, since they appear to have identical specs. However, at 1/6 the price, I was willing to trust other reviews of this memory and those reviews were quite positive, so I went with the Kingston.Customer Review: Its snappier

When Apple kindly repaired my pre-unibody Macbook Pro, essentially replacing everything inside, I decided to update it and keep it another year. The first step was to increase the RAM from 2 to 4 GBs, the official (but not absolute) limit for this model). Ram is pretty much a commodity these days, rolling off of automated machinery in China. I went for the best price in a recognizable brand and that was Kingston.
Easy to install on these computers and instantly recognized and working without any drama. Along with a new and better hard drive, the MBP is much snappier, really a new machine that runs Aperture 3 very well now.
Other brands are worthy, but I would feel comfortable with Kingston based on my experience so far. If it fails in the future, I'll update.

I bought this to run aperture 3 for my wife. It does not make things move any quicker. The spinning rainbow of death has appeared, maybe a little less frequently after we bought this but in regular tasks I expected a bump up in speed, it is not noticeable.
I do not know what component needs to be sped up, it may be the cpu, the virtual memory does most of the work and this has not provided relief in that case.
I had to tear the other memory out. Break it, therefore it is useless. I wish it were not so hard, installing it after pulverizing the 1gb made me nervous. I wouldn't buy this again. Wish I had known it would not increase the speed. However I have never run aperture on 1gb so it could be that the 4gb is the only thing saving me from instant crash.

I don't know if you are like me, but when I install something on a computer especially right after I received my mac book pro without even turning it on once...I gritted my teeth and crossed my fingers it would work out. Lo and behold it worked very well and immediately. I can assure you that if I can install it, certainly most can as well. A good purchase especially since running multiple programs now really demand the memory. It has performed very well since day one. What I'm saying is that you don't need a geek squad or others who charge a fortune for 10minutes max of your time. Make sure you hear a little click once you put the card in.
I chose this memory because the package said it was for apple, I wanted to make sure it was compatible.

If I could give this product more than five stars I would. I was at Best Buy today and they are selling the exact same product for $299. My math tells me that this is an 85% discount here on Amazon. Unbelievable. I just installed it in my white MacBook 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. This is the previous model and not the aluminum laptop. Installation was simple (once I bought a screwdriver small enough to unscrew the metal covering over the slots), and the computer recognizes all four gigs of RAM. Since I just installed it tonight I cannot speak of any performance enhancements, but I am going to buy another set for my 24 inch iMac. Even my frugal wife, who frowns upon my tech purchases, thinks this is a great deal.
