Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kingston Apple 4GB Kit (2x2GB Modules) 667MHz DDR2 SoDimm iMac and Macbook Memory (KTA-MB667K2/4GR)Customer Review: Bought it to upgrade a white MacBook (running Mac OS X 10.6.3) Summary: 5 Stars
Bought this to upgrade a white MacBook (non-UniBody).
Was previous running 10.6.2 with 1 GB of RAM. Also ran Windows XP (SP3) via Bootcamp.
Installing the RAM took no time as it is easy to upgrade the MacBook (although you will need to remove the battery and 3 screws).
Performance showed a drastic improvement. Including app launching, boot time, running multiple apps and files with no slow downs.
Now running 10.6.3 with no trouble at all. Everything is very fast. Got the 4GB module and the MacBook is maxed out.
Didn't get a chance to run full RAM test, but I didn't get any kernel panics.
This RAM does not work with ANY OF THE UNIBODY Macs. Remember this runs at 667MHz. The newer Mac's RAM run at over 1000 Mhz. Just letting you guys know.
Recommended purchase.
P.S. Also Kingston has very reliable warranty policy. So if anything goes wrong, you can always get free replacement from them (assuming if you send them your broken RAM).
Customer Review: Great value upgrade Summary: 5 Stars
I used this kit to upgrade my 3 year old (Mid 2007) iMac from 2GB to 4GB.
Installation went very smoothly - was pleasantly surprised to see instructions on how to do the memory upgrade pre-printed on the bottom of the foot of the iMac! Just use the tab to pull out the old memory (noting which end the slot is), insert the new memory and press in firmly. Close the cover and it was all done in a few minutes.
After starting up I was pleased with the apparent speed boost when multitasking - particularly improved responsiveness in the Finder and when working in memory intensive apps such as Photoshop Elements 9. Activity Monitor showed the new memory being well utilised - and demonstrated that prior to the upgrade I was definitely doing lots of paging to the hard drive which was causing me frustration.
Well worth the money spent - it hasn't given me a new computer, but it should postpone my need to upgrade for 6 months or more.
Customer Review: Good memory. Summary: 5 Stars
The truth i did not get the "Kingstone" memory pack, as i was supposed to, i bought an used product, which in fact happened to be Samsung. However, I was happy with the Samsung because I was about to pop this memory in an iMac aluminum late september 2007. That iMac comes in fact with Samsung memory. For some reason, kingstone is not quite friendly as Samsung on this machine. I tried once putting 2gb kingstone and it was kind of tricky until i was able to have it working right, not sure why, i had to put it back in 20 times until the machine would start up.
With the samsung i was able to get it working at once, just like a charm. I guess this is not the kind of review you were expecting on buying this memory. However, in my macbook, i do have this memory installed, and it was perfectly, as good as it should. It did not complain at all. Not sure if it is exactly the same but at least is kingstone. No regrets.
Customer Review: Great RAM But For Older Macs Summary: 5 Stars
This is high-quality RAM and it may well make a significant difference to your machine. If you find that you're running many programs at once or using some more demanding programs like Photoshop this RAM will give you a bit of an edge. Read some of the reviews here and you'll see that.
But do note, this RAM is for the mid-2007 iMacs and MacBooks. The latest generation, the ones released in 2008 with Intel Core 2 Duo processors can still use it, but will do better with a slightly faster RAM. This is PC5300 RAM and is 667MHz. What you actually want for the latest generation of Macs is MC6400 RAM running at 800MHz. It's not going to be a night and day difference, but it's about the same price and you may as well get the right stuff.
To find the stuff you should get, search for this here at Amazon: KTA-MB800K2/4G. That is the Kingston part number and will turn up the one you want.
Customer Review: Kingston Apple 4GB Upgrade Kit Rocks!! Summary: 5 Stars
I received this memory and within ten minutes of opening the package I had it installed in my Late 2008 White Macbook. This memory was immediately recognized by my Macbook, no hassle or issues. I have noticed a nice speed change in the opening of programs and particularly when I am using multiple applications both local and on the internet. You cannot go wrong with Kingston memory upgrades. The only time I have ever seen clients have issues with Kingston memory upgrades is when they do not seat the memory correctly or push it in all the way. I would highly recommend this product to my friends and family!
