Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kingston USB 2.0 microSD Flash Memory Card Reader FCR-MRB (Black)Customer Review: Very Cool!! This should replace all old school USB drives Summary: 5 Stars
I have two of these, they are VERY cool! Tough and simple. I toss the outer shell with the lanyard, insert my card (2G are fairly cheap now) and put it in my wallet along with a few micro cards. Imo it's so much better to have a teeny reader or two and micro cards VS carrying full size reader(s). And you'll never be without it because you always carry your wallet. Flash drives have a high failure rate, so I'd much rather have four 2G micro cards in my wallet than a regular size 8G thumb drive... I keep a backup of the most important stuff right there in my wallet too! Oh, and with an SD card adaptor I have these micro cards in my camera, voice recorder, etc.. My cell takes micro too, so I'm micro chipped all the way around now, take a pix w/ my camera or cell, and a minute later it's on my computer getting photoshopped! Sweet.....
The only other USB toy I like better is the A Data micro reader, it's less than 1/2 the size, but a more $. Same deal; toss the outer shell/lanyard and put in my wallet. I have one of these Kingston readers and two A Data readers in my wallet. When I pull them out, everyone wants to get one.
And of course there are all kinds of cool programs that will run directly from it. I can use a friends computer to burn CD/DVD's, "back-up" and compress music or movies, run Word, Excel etc, all without installing a thing on his/her computer. Plus all kinds of rescue software to help out whoever who computer is broke or infected, and from anywhere at anytime :) Ok, enough soapbox, just buy it!
Customer Review: Wow! It's Tiny! Summary: 5 Stars
You definitely want to attach this microSDHC card reader to your keychain or backpack. This thing is tiny! I've lost count of the number of times I've lost it. It's barely bigger than the size of the distal phalange of my pinkie!
Pros
----
- It's tiny (it's a double-edged sword)!
- It works with microSD and microSDHC cards (microSDHC = High Capacity microSD cards with capacities ranging from 4GB to 32GB).
- It's 100% reliable! I use it with my 8GB Kingston microSDHC Class 4 cards with no problems whatsoever.
Cons
----
None whatsoever.
A couple of people mentioned that it's hard to get the microSD card out. I personally don't find it to be terribly difficult to remove the card from the slot at all. The tail end of the microSD card is slightly raised so you can grab it with your fingernails to pull it out of the slot. The microSD looks fragile but they're built more sturdy than you might think (I've never broken one yet)!
The Kingston USB 2.0 microSD works perfectly. It's very reasonably priced and there's free shipping - I don't think you can go wrong with this one!
Customer Review: Junk from across the seas... Summary: 1 Stars
...AGAIN!
I realize the soul of this county has been sold to China, I get that. The vast majority of EVERYTHING has been outsourced by greedy SOBs that don't care what cost their actions take on us, its the bottom line...I get that as well.
But this is the second piece of junk that I've gotten in a week, and now I know what not to do...
NEVER BUY ANYTHING DIRECTLY FROM CHINA EVER AGAIN!
I've got a piece of garbage iPhone clone (what a mistake that was...the real one is coming soon), and now this.
This thing was basically just a little USB plug with a little section for the card...the USB plug is the wrong size! It will not fit into a USB plug! How can they screw that up?! The one I got is not even branded! Its a copy!
I'm sure that the distributor will gladly have me send a ¢50 piece of garbage half way around the world (at a cost of 5x what the thing is worth), but hey, its too late, I've already thrown it in the trash.
I'm only buying local from now on...this was a good lesson!
Customer Review: Great time saver Summary: 5 Stars
My mobile phone - Motorola Karma QA1 - has an MP3 player built in, and accepts MicroSD card up to 16GB. The bluetooth file transfer is fine for a file at a time, but is cumbersome for moving songs on/from the phone. I also tried the USB transfer cable, which was an improvement... at least I could start a transfer and leave it running. It seemed lke the bottleneck of the phone having to function as a file server was still slowing down transfers. The SD adapter that came witht he MicroSD card would not function in my laptop.
So... kept looking for an alternative. This handy card reader literally could not be smaller - the device is barely larger than a USB input, and the housing was also kept to a minimum. Works great, with the file transfers performed in seconds - by comparison to the ther alternatives I tried, it provides instant gratification - POW - done. Friggin' love that.
Customer Review: Good Summary: 3 Stars
it does what it states it would do. It's really small tho... so if you plan on carrying it around with you, i would definitely put it in a place where it wont get lost easily. if you have it in your backpack you'll spend forever looking for it.
the only gripe i have this this is just that. when you pull the case away from the reader and then input the card in, unless you have something close to nails, it'll be a bit hard to get out. also if your USB ports arent easily accessible, and when i mean accessible i mean flat panel or close to laptop ports, it'll just be annoying pulling it out
aside from just the mentioned, you can find cheaper all in ones around the web if you look around. 3 stars because it worked but -2 because i could've found cheaper if i looked harder and the cheaper ones also are multi-readers. this is just single.
