Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kingston DataTraveler 100 - 16 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive DT100/16GBCustomer Review: High Capacity - Low Cost Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased 2 of these 16GB Kingston drives. I use them with my WD HD TV video unit, where I load video onto them using my computer, then take them upstairs to the WD HD TV unit to view the videos (movies and tv series). So far, they both have worked 100% perfect. I've got about 15-20 hours "live" usage time on each drive so far, and not once have I had a glitch.
The ONLY reason I gave it four starts instead of five is this: The plastic housing of this unit feels a little cheap. I am not sure how much abuse this thing can take before it falls apart. In my case, I always treat these things like fragile glass, so hope it stays together. But for those of you who like to put these kind of things in your pocket, throw around, etc., you might find it to be a problem.
But if you are gentle and are looking for a high-capacity USB thumb drive, then this is it and the price is outstanding!
Customer Review: Cheap but Flimsy Summary: 3 Stars
On the tech end this product leaves a bit to be desired. It is USB 2.0 but it still seems slow. With me having to sit around while I load larger files. I also noticed a fairly large file not being completily loaded, however this may have been an error on my part so I will not count that against the device.
The design on this is fairly bad. It's flimsy, I feel like I may break it if I keep it in my pocket. Also the ability to retract the usb connecter, while ueful, makes the flimsiness seem all the more urgent. It has a tendency to not lock into my bay well. Since I'm on a laptop it's come loose a couple of time forcing me to restart the uploading progress.
Overall it gets the job done. And is good if you want to move larger files, but I'm sure there are superior models out there and I would recommend getting one of those before buying this.
Customer Review: Does Not Copy Well Summary: 1 Stars
I have used Kingston Datatravelers for years and have been very pleased with them. I am extremely pleased with the 8GB device which copies fast and completely when I back up files and folders. However, I laid out a bit of money for the 16GB model and I was sorely disappointed! It is horrible. Not only is it SLOWER than mountains wearing down but it only seemed to copy some of the files and completely ignored whole sets of folders in the copying process! I have gone through the process 3 times now and my plan is to do something we all would like to do with a piece of technological junk: slam it with a hammer. I have to wonder what the failure rate is on these high capacity Kingston crappers. It is basically useless. DO NOT BUY THIS 16GB MODEL. Check around on the net and see that many others have issues with this data drive.
Customer Review: Great For Quick Backups or On The Go File Storage Summary: 5 Stars
I own numerous USB Flash Drives, and although most of them still work okay, I find myself buying a new one every year or so since they keep getting bigger and cheaper. This Kingston 16GB model is a great value, and I like the retractable feature as opposed to worrying about using a cap. The device works perfectly right out of the box, and you can start using it immediately. The amount of data storage is great considering the amount of photos, videos, and music people have these days. I use this one to not only keep a portable copy of my music, but also to keep a few applications and documents I may need on other computers.
Bottom Line: Great device that offers lots of storage, it's easy to use, works right out of the box, and is a great value for the money.
Customer Review: Fast and Perfect Solution for Data Deluge Summary: 5 Stars
I love this 16 gig flash drive; it isn't clogged with unnecessary "freebie" software/utility software, so you get what you pay for: 16 GB of data storage.
I've found it indispensable for our extensive photo collection & have even used it to store mpeg family movies & slideshows & background music for these family "productions."
Access speeds are fast & we've even plugged it into our Samsung HDTV to watch home movies & our slideshows. Performance has been flawless. Retractable USB connector is a plus--no cap to keep track of. I liked this so well I also bought a 4 GB (in yellow) to boot. Like the fact that the various drive sizes are color coded (blue, purple, red, yellow, etc.). Highly recommended!
