Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kingston 4 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card SD6/4GB

Customer Review: Stay away
Summary: 1 Stars

Kingston has quickly become my least favorite brand of flash memory. Back when digital cameras were new, Kingston was a name I could trust for compatibility and customer service. I have used nothing else in my digital SLR, point 'n shoot, and digital video camera. Early in 2008 I purchased five Kingston sdhc cards. I ran an exhaustive memory test which of course passed. They worked fine in my Pentax K20 digital camera. Later in 2008 I purchased another five Kingston sdhc cards of the identical type. My memory test ran fine. But, when I used them in my camera I was only able to shoot about 5 to 10 photos before the camera reported memory read and write errors on all 5 cards. Switching back to the older batch of memory worked fine.

I emailed Kingston for advice. They chose not to respond. So, I opened an RMA to return the five bad cards. I received a prompt automated email response and I sent the last 5 sdhc cards back. They sent me another five sdhc cards from the SAME LOT. Surprise, they did not work either. This time, I faxed them a letter to advise them of a bad lot of memory, gave them the lot number, and asked if they could help me with my problem. Again, Kingston failed to respond.

I would rather throw these bad memory cards into the trash and loose money rather than let Kingston sell them to another unsuspecting consumer. Something happened at Kingston between Spring of 2008 and Fall of 2008. My guess is they switched their manufacturing process for the worse. Their customer service used to respond to emails but no longer. A lifetime warranty does no good if they only swap your bad memory with more bad memory.

Customer Review: Slow! Slow! Slow!
Summary: 5 Stars

Thinking that SDHC ment improved performance, I went out and picked up a couple of these cards. My new camera (canon xsi) takes sdhc so I thought I'd pick up the fastest version (class 6) and I'd have the ultimate setup.
This is where it get tricky....Class 6 means anything from 6 megabite/sec to 60 megabites/sec, or more! If you have a 12 meg camera and your Kingston card only writes at 6 megs, it will take at least 2 seconds to complete. I say at least, because these Kingston cards are slow...meaning the bottom of the barrel. If you tend to shot bursts of 4 or more sports shots, it will take your camera an eternity to finish writing.
DO NOT BUY ANY SD/SDHC CARD UNLESS IT SAYS IT CAN WRITE AT LEAST 20 MEGABITES/SEC! Also, if a company lists speed by 133x, or 60x this also is extremely lame since there really isn't any set standard for what (x) is.......Companies who fail to list the exact read/write speeds are trying to get away with deception....don't fall for it!
You may pay a bit more buying from another company (lexar, sandisk, etc) but they're at least honest, and will tell you exactly what speeds you can expect.........trust me you'll be much more pleased with your purchase. ks

Customer Review: Very pleased

My camera is a Canon Powershot A650 IS, and is compatible with this Kingston 4GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Card (SD6/4GB) card.

I've never gotten a memory card this big before, or needed one this big, but since my camera can take it, I decided to go with the 4GB. I read some reviews on the different types of flash drives and made sure that this one was compatible with my camera, and it was. I also looked up how to judge "class" numbers (like this one is a class 6) to see what the difference was. Basically (if your device can take it) the higher the class, the faster it is :D

I'm very pleased with my purchase. The picture capturing and loading is very quick, so much quicker than my previous SD cards, which is convenient for me, because I'm the family photographer, and with children - you know how that goes... if you miss the moment waiting for the camera to finish loading, then you miss it completely. I also take pictures of things in nature, and use this same camera when going to concerts, so processing speed is very important to me. Erasing processing time is also very speedy, which I like.

I hope that was helpful! ^^

Customer Review: A Real Bargain
Summary: 5 Stars

Until recently, I bought nothing but SanDisk and Lexar SD cards for my digital cameras. To be honest, they always worked perfectly and I have no complaints about the products themselves.

A few months ago I was on the website of a well-known photo shop located in New York City and came across these Class 6 Kingston cards selling for about half the price of the SanDisk and Lexar products.

Being in the market from some 4gb cards, I figured that I had nothing to lose (the store has a no-questions-asked return policy) so I ordered two.

One went into my Nikon D80 and the other into my Canon G9. All that I can say is that they work just as well as the higher priced brands. I see no difference in performance and they have proven to be 100% reliable.

Frankly, I don't find that one brand of Class 6 cards is any faster than another in my cameras. Perhaps someone with sophisticated testing equipment can prove that one brand is a milisecond faster than another but, for all practical purposes, it really doesn't matter.

Customer Review: Does not work

Bottom line, Save your money and stay away from this memory card.
After buying a new Cannon digital camera, I started looking around for a reasonably priced SD or SDHC card. Sandisk and other recognizable brand names were selling for about $30 at brick and mortar stores. So I decided to check online and found some great deals on Amazon. It did cross my mind that the prices might be too good to be true.
I should have listened to my inner voice. After receiving the Kingston 4 gb sdhc in the mail, I put it into my camera. The camera showed 3.9 GBs available. That's fine, I thought. So I took a couple of shots and was able to review them. Then I turned the camera off and that's when the trouble began. When I turned on the camera a few hours later, the camera displayed a memory card error. Removing the card and re-seating did not work. Wiping the connectors on the card did not work. Nothing I did fixed the problem, except going out and buying a new card.
