While my first drive still works, my second drive has failed. Repeated scans, formats, and even a full diskpart treatment were unable to fix the random disconnect issue. I will be returning it in favor of a better made product.
I bought one of these drives to use with my car radio's USB port. I am very happy with it, though I would always like more space...so I bought another one.
The unit itself looks very cool, and seems to be built very well. When the cap is slid to the "closed" position, it does not actauly protect the USB plug, so you should not get this drive if you plan on keeping it at the bottom of your pocket (lint gets in it).
The drive seems to be very reliable. I live in florida, and drive a black car. I leave this in my car all the time, and it has not hurt it at all.
The drive isn't very fast...only about twice the speed of a kingston 8gb microSD card. This is much faster than is needed for MP3s, but it does take a while to copy stuff to it. I also tested it with some video files, and most SD video plays fine right off the card. There are much faster 8GB usb drives around, but they either cost more or sacrifice reliability.
The drive is rather large...not much larger than most USB drives, but there are much smaller units available. I wouldn't want this thing hanging from a lanyard around my neck, and it could be an issue if your car's USB port is near the shifter.
