Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Mini Microphone for iPhone 3G/iPod/touch/classicCustomer Review: Works perfectly on any iPod phone or Touch. Summary: 5 Stars
I recently bought this model for my iPod Touch 3rd generation and received it in 4 days. It works beautifully. Produces great sound for my voice recordings, and easily picks up the tones when I use an app called Guitar Tuner for my acoustic guitar. There is nothing bad to say; it is a small package that is easily plugged in, even when the Touch is in it's leather case, and easily unplugged. It is very well built, and the plug cover stays on the connector and completes the look of a capsule when not in use. I paid $2.99, which included shipping, so I got the best deal around.
As a comparison, I also purchased one of the colored mini mics from another dealer for much more. The first blue mini mic I received wasn't recognized by my iPod Touch 3rd generation, even though it was supposed to be compatible. I received a second one, but it too didn't work. After going to the Apple Store and working with a technician, they weren't able to make it work, even with the technician's iPod Touch 3rd generation, though the blue mini mic did work with the iPod Touch 4th generation and the iPhone 4th generation.
I would say that this mini mic is the one to have, if you want to use recording, and voice or sound recognition capabilities with your iPod.
Customer Review: Don't overlook... Summary: 4 Stars
Product worked just fine. Great value for what I paid. At first, I thought there was a problem - jumped on my iPod Touch and did a "...test test test...". When I hit the play back - nothing. Tried again only speaking louder - same result. The back of the package said you had to use with an app (listed a few options on iTunes that you had to pay for). Started to get frustrated, thinking it wouldn't work with the voice recorder that came with the iPod. Did a quick Google search as surely there's someone smarter than I that has figured this out. Found a You Tube video showing a kid opening it up (certainly he'll run into the same issue I had...). He did the same test - the only difference... he took the microphone OUT OF THE HEADSET JACK and it worked fine. Did my test - took the mic out of the jack - play back through the iPod speaker was fine. Made me feel old - kid on a video does it with out issue in three seconds and I can't figure it out until I Google it. I remember being that kid with my dad... now I'm that guy.
Customer Review: Nice, small, inexpensive Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of the few accessories you should need for your iPod Touch, not sure why Apple didn't spend another 15 cents and include a built-in mic.
This is a nice little mic, it plugs into the 1/8" headphone/mic jack on the bottom of your iPod Touch and enables the Voice Memos app that ships with the iTouch to work. You could also use the mic on the earbuds included with the iTouch, but I don't usually have those handy. I purchased this mic primarily for Shazam, the app that can identify a song just by hearing a bit of it, and it works well for that.
As others have no doubt noted, when this mic is plugged in you can't use the headphone port. This isn't usually a problem for me.
I have a vinyl case/bag for my iTouch and just leave this mic in the bottom so I'll have it with me when needed. With the protective cover on the silver part of the mic it is well protected.
Customer Review: Does the job Summary: 3 Stars
This product does exactly what it says it will. It is a microphone for your iPod. There are a couple downsides however.
My first issue is that this product is difficult to use if you have a serious case for your iPod. I have an otterbox and I had to go buy a little extension cord that cost me more than mic.
Secondly when you want to listen to anything you have recorded you have to remove the mic because if you don't you can't hear anything. I understand that these are problem inherent with the way the hardware is designed but I guess I'd hoped that the $300 dollar iPod would have been smart enough to tell the difference and just use the internal speaker when initiating playback. The real reason this is an issue for me is because I was hoping to use the iPod as a sometimes phone, which this piece of hardware won't let me do.
All in all, good enough for government work.
Customer Review: Tiny, basic microphone does its job. Summary: 4 Stars
Mini Microphone for iPhone 3G/iPod/touch/classic
Mine came from SF Planet for $2.03 + Free Shipping.
This microphone performs as expected.
Comes with a plastic cap that has a tiny spot for a string or wire (not included).
Plug-n-play; no instructions.
Fits firmly; won't fall out.
Does not work with "Ocarina" app on iPod.
Works well with "Dragon Dictation" & "My Ringtones" on iPod.
It's not exactly a "hi-fi," quality reproduction-type instrument, but it does its job well, esp. for the very reasonable price.
I'm very surprised it got here safely; there's no packaging to speak of. The little mic is wrapped in thin plastic, and a small piece of paper, and placed in an envelope. No padding, no shredded newspaper, no bubble packaging--nothing.
