Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of All-in-One Travel Power Plug Adapter for US, UK, EU, AUCustomer Review: did not hold a reliable connection Summary: 1 Stars
I have been living in Korea and needed a good adapter so that I could use my American electronics without using the bulky transformer boxes (almost all my gear has built in transformers, so I only needed an adapter). However, I found that when using the European setting, even the slightest nudge would cause it to lose connectivity. I even went as far as trying to tightly tape it into place, but it would still only hold for a few seconds.
in addition, when I first plugged it in and occasionally later on, it would make loud sparks. There are even scorch marks on it and the American surge protector I was trying to use with it. I've been reading more now, and realize that cheap adapters are very unwise in Korea and can cause fires.
my advice is to find a much more reliable adapter, especially if you're going to be using it in Korea.
Customer Review: MAJOR ISSUE!!!!! DANGER Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased two of these for our trip to England last spring ('10). Our trip was cancelled because of the volcanic ash. We rescheduled to go on New Years ('11) and just got back, hence the delay in my review. I have two issuses with the product: First the fit of the adaptor into the UK outlet is not tight. This caused problems with a bad connection being made so sometimes cell phones didn't get charged because the slightest nudge would break the contact. Secondly, a person in our traveling party got a strong shock when he wrongly thought he had to slide the green tab to unlock before removing it from an UK outlet strip. In doing this, the other set of prongs lowered and shocked him. Not only did it really hurt him but the plastic necks on those prongs melted and now will no longer retract so the adaptor must be thrown out.
Customer Review: Did not work in most EU countries due to loose coupling Summary: 1 Stars
I tried to use this all-in-one adapter on my recent trip to multiple cities in Europe. But, the coupling (connection) was loose in every socket, and hence I spent a lot of time trying to get this adapter to fit. Hence, I'd recommend against buying this adapter.
Luckily, I had also bought dedicated adapters for each country, and those worked extremely well. Here is the list for anyone who intends to travel to Europe.
x Lewis N. Clark Grounded Italy Adapter Plug - Italy only
x Power Bright PB-12 US to UK 3-Prong Travel Outlet Plug Adapter - UK only
x Grounded Adapter - CE Certified - USA to Europe - Heavy Duty Adapter - Most places in Europe
And, a power strip to connect multiple US style outlets
x Monster MP OTG400 BK Outlets To Go 4 Outlet Travel Power Strip (Black)
Customer Review: Good outlet adapter (not a voltage converter) Summary: 4 Stars
This little guy is easy to use although, like another reviewer here, I had to learn to use the sliding "lock" button when I had a hard time getting the plug to stay IN the outlet (hint: if the outlet keeps "spitting the plug out," it means you haven't used the lock button properly!). I also like that it comes with a little gray bag, although I'm not sure how much that adds to the overall value.
Feels a little cheap, but it gets the job done. However, it is NOT a voltage converter and will not prevent a short if you plug in an appliance that is really not meant for the voltage of your outlet. I plugged in a small US hair dryer (no voltage label so I thought I'd take a chance) into a 240V outlet and got an exciting blue flash, and shorted the outlets in my hotel room. Bummer.
Customer Review: Simple, versatile, quality adapter Summary: 5 Stars
This has worked in all the countries I've tried it (UK, Europe). Yes, they misspelled Africa on the box, but the connections are sound (I tested them with a multimeter).
My only complaint is that you can't always ground your electronic device. Aside from the negligible electrical issues with this, if you have a big bulky plug it might tilt the adapter out of the wall a bit.
Includes surge protector. Nice and compact, no parts to lose or remove. Highly recommended.
The user photo by "Eric B. Wolf "Map Geek"" is not of the device I have - there is no switch. Mine matches all the other photos.
This does NOT convert voltages! Check the country you're going to and read the info on the device you want to use.
