Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kingmax Super Stick - 2GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (World's Tiniest)Customer Review: Wowie Summary: 5 Stars
Jesus, this thing is tiny--exactly what I was looking for for my keychain. I saw a friend with a 1GB model and bought myself this one merely minutes later. No longer do I have to cart around a heavy thumb flash drive, I can hook this to my keys and just forget about it! And you can't argue with that price either. Works just fine with my Intel Mac and OS X 10.4, even though it's not specified on the packaging. The only concern I could possibly have is durability, and that remain to be seen. FINALLY someone realized that nobody wants to deal with caps that you lose and sticks that are just too big to comfortably go with your keys.
UPDATE: After a few months of heavy use (classwork at the university), I have to say this guy is worth more than it's weight in gold. Fits in any USB port, stows in my wallet so it's always with me, and large enough to transfer movie files, there's nothing this guy can't do. Unfortunately, my wallet just broke and the drive fell out so now I have to buy a new one. Such is life--you shouldn't ever be putting data on a flash drive that isn't backed up somewhere anyway.
If I had to gripe, I'd say that the plastic sheath that protects the IC should probably be made of a stronger, chip-resistant material. If they could properly insulate it, replacing the plastic with metal would be ideal. As it is, I've dropped it, thrown it, walked around for months with it in my wallet and had no problem. The form-factor is a huge selling point for me, and there's nothing out there that beats this guy.
The included lanyard and chain is cheap and breaks easily. You don't want it anyway, so I don't even care. $20 for 2GB of portable, tiny flash memory. Why doesn't everyone have these embedded in their skin yet?
Customer Review: This thing is great! Summary: 5 Stars
The casing could use some re-enforcement, I've kept mine on a keychain since I bought it and one of the rear corners has cracked, but it was easily repaired with some super-glue and it can keep on taking a beating. It's on my keychain that is frequently stuck into the side of a motorcycle and subjected to high winds and even rain occasionally. The same day that I got stuck in that rainstorm on the motorcycle I was in such a hurry to get out of my wet clothes that I didn't take my keys out of my pocket when I threw my pants into the washer. Yep. Even though the casing was cracked it still went through the washer and the dryer and it still totally works.
I'm not so sure about the speed thing, it seems plenty fast on some computers, not so much on others, but That leads me to think that maybe I should blame the slower computers. flash drives are always really slow if you make the mistake of sticking them into a computer that only has usb 1.1... So it works fine, Although I am wary of the reviews where people's drives have stopped working, I think at 9.99 you can afford to buy a couple and It's never a good idea to keep the only copy of an important file on a removable drive.
The best thing about this is that it's small enough to keep on my keychain all the time. So whenever you need a file and you're someplace totally random, like at a friend's house and he just finished processing those photos from the big party... You don't have to sit there and try to find out if your yahoo mail acct can really handle a 200 MB zip file. or burn a CD that's way harder to carry around than this tiny flash drive.
So there you go.
Customer Review: Tiny, durable, medium write speeds Summary: 4 Stars
Everyone who has seen my Kingmax has been impressed that it is 2GB and so tiny.
I have forgotten my first Super Stick twice through the wash and dry. It survived each time without any problems even months later. It is very durable and obviously water-proof and heat resistant. I do not have it on my key-ring however, since its metal contacts are open and I do not want them scratched up. The included plastic strap is large, stiff, and does not look like it goes with this key at all. I used an old, small Kodak camera strap, and for my second Kingmax, a strap from another USB key.
I really like this USB key, and I now own three. I own two 2gb versions, and one 512. The 512mb version I keep in my wallet as a D. Small Linux USB drive. The other two I keep in a pocket without keys.
The wrist strap was so bad I threw all three away. Also, the plastic coat that comes with the key will eventually be lost - count on it. Even without the protective sleeve and throwing away the included terrible wrist strap, this has been a worthwhile purchase, and I plan to buy more for gifts. Minus one star for not having any case, and a worthless, huge wrist strap.
Customer Review: Agonizingly slow! Summary: 1 Stars
OK, so it is small, and a little cute... that's it? that's it.
i use apple computers, and as much as i hate how everything is covered in apple logos, it is even worse to have a Windows Vista logo emblazoned across the front of this thing. i didn't think it would bother me, but it does.
lets get down to brass tacks, this is the by far the slowest flash drive i have. i bench tested it myself, and the results were depressing. the sustained read averages around 19 kbps, random read about the same, sustained write about 6.5, and worst of all, random write is averages 2.7.
if speed matters to you, do not buy this drive. on the other hand, if you want a cute looking, vista endorsing little drive to throw a few text files on now and then, i suppose this is the drive for you.
on a brighter note, shipping was fast, and product was well packaged.
Customer Review: Best, smallest, and toughest USB stick yet, although not perfect. Summary: 4 Stars
I have gone through about 6 previous USB keychains, and destroyed all of them within a few weeks, mostly loosing the cap, having the lanyard plastic crack, etc. Additionally, all of that plastic is too big for me.
This one is slow, yes, but absolutely perfect for my keychain. My wife uses hers as a cell-phone dangle. The downside is that when you plug it into a computer, often the entire weight of your keys is hanging from the stick, which causes it to bend heavily, and leads to the delaminating that the reviewer abover mentioned. At $10 for 1GB, however, I can't get to upset about getting a new one every 4-6 months of heavy use.
When something better comes out (same size, more indestructible, easier to unclip) I'll switch, but until then this is by far the best.
