Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Keyspan by Tripp Lite USA-19HS Hi-Speed USB Serial Adapter, PC, MAC, supports Cisco Break SequenceCustomer Review: Works when all others fail Summary: 5 Stars
Allows me to program motor controllers from a computer without an RS232 port. Vista driver on the included CD-ROM loads fine on a Windows 7 Premium laptop and a new netbook running Windows 7 Basic. Remember to install the driver BEFORE plugging in the USB, otherwise Windows may try to load the wrong one.
In my case, I also had to go into the port settings and select hardware flow control before the device would work. With all the other settings optimized for speed, the adapter was as fast as a "real" serial port. No crashes or errors so far.
This product simply works and was shipped promptly. I just placeed an order for five more Keyspan USA-19HS adaptors through Amazon; that should tell you something.
Customer Review: Worked as Advertised Summary: 5 Stars
I needed to connect my serial Spaceball 5000 to a USB port so I could update my CAD software. At first I purchased a cheaper adapter for $10. Even with the supplied disc Windows XP would not recognize it. After reading the reviews I spent the extra money (there are cheaper ones out there). The software installed easily and when I plugged in the adapter XP recognized both the adapter and the Spaceball. Although, at first the Spaceball would not work the supplied software told me that the adapter was "COM3". I had to edit the registry and change the Spaceball com port from COM1 to COM3. Voila, it worked great with my CAD software. Spend the extra money and get this, it works. Also it's cheaper than spending $300 for a new Spaceball.
Customer Review: Wonderful "Tool" Summary: 5 Stars
I am a software engineer and do a lot of work with hardware which communicates via Serial ports. The problem is that I no longer own a computer which has a Serial port so I can no longer connect to these devices.
I purchased this device and installed the drivers on my Windows 7 64bit machine. I plugged in my serial devices to the Keyspan and they worked just as they did when I plugged them in directly to a serial port.
It is 100% seamless integration between USB and Serial. Your computer software can not and will not tell a difference there is an emulated serial port that it's talking to via the USB protocol.
This is the perfect fix for this situation.
Thank you, Keyspan!
Customer Review: Simple, reliable serial to USB adapter. Summary: 5 Stars
I work with many different devices that provide only a serial port interface. Several of these devices are built in my office and rarely conform completely to the relevant standards for serial communication. In all cases where the device has previously worked with a standard serial port I have found that the Keyspan High Speed USB Serial Adapter with my Mac to work flawlessly.
This serial adapter has a green LED that indicates when the serial adapter is active (recognized by the computer) and that blinks when data is passed over the serial connection. The USB cable is a standard USB A to USB B cable. In situations where the included cable is too short a generic USB cable can be used instead.
Customer Review: Allowed use of old Wacom tablet Summary: 5 Stars
I have recently decided to start playing around with digital photo editing again (last time was when PS3 and SCSI 3-pass scanners were in vogue) and dusted off my Wacom ArtPad II tablet. I tried various serial to USB adapters that didn't work and stumbled across this in a forum or review someplace and after reading other reviews on Amazon, decided to give it a try. The fact that it is a little more than just a plug in adapter will give you a clue that it is something above the ordinary. Installation for XP and configuration was quick and simple. I thought I was going to have to find an adapter card and free up a PCI slot. And only God knows what I would have done if it asked me to solve an IRQ conflict.
