Customer Review: Perfect solution for serial Wacom tablet
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently found myself needing to dust off my vintage Wacom tablet (ArtZ II), for an upcoming project. It's been several computers since I've used the thing and so was dismayed to find that 'modern' computers can't be bothered with the lowly serial port. What the hell is that all about?? Parallel port? Fine, get rid of it - it was an eyesore anyway. But the serial port? Who's bright idea was it to do away with it? I pay all this money, and I've got no serial port? Ain't right!! Anyway, I tried the PCI serial adapter card route and unbelievably it didn't work. It installed properly. Windows knew what to do with it, the Wacom software recognized the tablet during install, but the damn thing would not work. So rather than wasting time in tracking down the source of the conflict, I took the advice from Wacom tech support and installed the Keyspan adapter that we are all talking about here. His sole reccomendation was the Keyspan - that it was the only one he knew for sure would work. I bought it, installed it, hooked up the tablet, and am now making pretty pictures on my computer.

This is a high quality product that easily resolved a high challenge application.

Customer Review: Keyspan is a winner!
Summary: 5 Stars

Turns out, I've fallen in love with Keyspan products! I purchased this USB/Serial adapter at the same time as their wireless remote control for my laptop and both work perfectly for everything I needed them to do. I'd read for several years that the Keyspan USB/Serial adapter just plain works for anything requiring a serial port. Most (all?) laptops are no longer providing serial ports and some (many?) of us still have need for said serial port(s). While there are many lesser USB/Serial adapters available at the big-box stores, they have issues with some peripherals. I need to control computer-controlled telescopes which require a serial port. Many adapters will do this, but UPDATING the firmware or motor-control firmware requires a more capable adapter - this one works perfectly for any and all tasks I've come across. Enough said...it just plain works, and works perfectly. It comes with a CD-Rom containing the drivers necessary to make it work properly. Be sure to following the instructions and install the drivers BEFORE plugging in the adapter. I couldn't be happier with this device.

Customer Review: Another Incompatible Device
Summary: 3 Stars

Add the following to the list of devices the Keyspan USA-19HS does not work with: Brother PT-PC Labeling system. My Sony Vaio laptop does not have a standard DB-9 serial interface. The Brother labeler needs one. Like many of you in a similar situation, I tried what appeared to be the most popular usb-serial interface adapter. Unfortunately, it is difficult to determine why the Keyspan adapter does not work. I used their latest I/O driver and configured the port as com6. This was my only choice. Why wasn't com2, com3, etc., available? Who knows. No user configurable options could make the Brother and the Keyspan talk properly to each other, even thought the Keyspan runs through its diagnostic tests fine. It's very annoying purchasing something this costly, and not having it do the job right. You'd think that something as well-documented as RS-232 serial would be simple as pie. This is one of the oldest computer interfaces in existence. Anyway, now I'm stuck with a useless adapter which seems to have been designed by someone who did not understand what the term handshake means. Pitiful.

Customer Review: Saved the Day
Summary: 5 Stars

My wife does embroidery with a commercial machine that is quite a few years old and was originally designed to connect to a PC via a serial port. Well, as we know modern computers do not offer serial ports any longer. After some searching on the Internet I cam across one artical where an individual said he was able to connect his machine using the Keyspan High Speed USB Serial Adapter, specifically the model USA-19HS.

I was able to locate the product on Amazon.com and ordered it right away. Ordering and shipping went off without any problems and the item was shipped right away, arriving within days. The product arrived sooner than promised, was well packaged and contained all necessary parts and a CD with the necessary drivers and instructions for installation.

After installing the drivers and the devices as per the instructions I hooked up the machine and everything worked just as it should. I'm very happy with the purchase and could not have asked for better service from Amazon.

Customer Review: Broke, and Keyspan stole it from me
Summary: 1 Stars

My USA-19HS worked ok for a couple of months, then stopped working. It started identifying itself as a a TUSB3410 Boot Device, which Keyspan's website says meant it was defective. I then went into customer service hell. After I posted my info to a tech support forum on their website, they vanished. I poked again a week and a half later, and they came back and told me to mail the device in. I did so. Then they vanished off the face of the earth. No replacement sent to me, no posts to my electronic tech support thread (despite multiple posts by me), and they don't answer their phones (there's a recording saying to visit the website). Eventually, weeks later, after I threatened to go to the BBB, someone posted and said they'd look for my device and get back to me that afternoon. Two days later, nothing again.

The device works fine, but heaven forbid you actually need to get it replaced. At this point, I have neither my dead device nor a refund -- I mailed it in, and it's gone in a black hole.
