Customer Review: Fantastic Presenter for Power Point or PDF Presentations
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The Kensington Wireless Presenter is a brilliant design that makes presenting a lot easier. I have been using the Kensington Wireless Presenter for several weeks and I am very pleased with it. I deliver presentations using Power Point or Adobe Acrobat at least once a week. Prior to receiving the Kensington Wireless Presenter, I would load my presentation files onto a general purpose memory stick or store them on my laptop and press keys on my laptop to advance the slides, all of which worked will enough. But, now that I am using the Kensington Wireless Presenter, delivering presentations is much easier because I can store presentations on the USB drive and I am no longer tied to a keyboard to advance the presentation slides.

The Kensington Wireless Presenter is plug and play with Windows and therefore setup on your computer is very easy. I use Windows XP Pro and my computers recognized the USB drive when I inserted it into a USB port and after a few seconds, the presenter was ready to be used. I also really like the way that the laser pointer only works if the USB drive is connected to your computer, reducing the risk of accidentally draining the batteries while the presenter is in your bag.

I use the Kensington Wireless Presenter both with Power Point and PDF files and it works well for both. A nice feature for Power Point is that there is a stop button on the presenter which causes the screen to go blank if you are using Power Point. Great if you want to have the slides ready but not showing before your presentation.

The presenter is comfortable to hold and easy to use. I highly recommend the Kensington Wireless Presenter if you make presentations and want an all-in-one device to make the delivery a lot easier.

Customer Review: Simple. Decent range. Expensive.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Pros: I like this wireless presenter a whole lot. It works well with Vista and OSX 10.5.x, Keynote & Office, out of the box, has good wireless range (tested at 20+ ft). Having the built-in laser pointer is useful. Simple four-button design - start, forward, backward and stop - minimizes confusion. The pointer has a docking pod for the USB receiver, which conveniently deactivates laser pointer when the receiver is in place. Now, I don't have to carry a laser pointer, the Apple control, and a thumb drive.

Cons: For the price $75 on Amazon, it should have a nicer design and larger storage capacity, and function as a wireless air mouse.
Admittedly, I am biased toward the Apple brushed aluminum uniblock design. Hence, I feel that, for $75, this product should feel solid in my hand as a high-end item, not some cheap rubberized plasticky stuff. The size is also a little bulky for my taste. I know 1 GB is capacious for PPT presentations; but flash memory is cheap. This product should have 4+GB, preferentially 8+GB to minimize having to carry another thumb drive. The four functions / four buttons design may work well with old-school slides. For graphic / video intensive slides, the functional deficiency starts to show. If this is a $25-dollar item, that would be acceptable. However, for $75, air mouse functionality should be built-in. So you can control your embedded video from afar, instead of having to return to the podium; that would defeat the purpose of the purported 60 ft range.

Final recommendation: excellent purchase for $25. Not more than that. Kensington should improve design / capacity / functionality for next version.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The Wireless Presenter comes with a little booklet in 11 languages, including Hungarian--and also English. It tells the user how to deal with the two AA batteries (supplied), and how long the limited warranty lasts (two years). What the booklet does not do, is tell the user what this product actually does, in addition to its functions as a laser pointer (which are not described, but they are obvious). It's a "presenter," but what actually does that mean? It comes with a tiny one-gigabyte flash drive, but what does the user load onto it? How, exactly, does this product facilitate a sales presentation? I assume if the scanty literature says "presentation," it does mean a sales one.

The booklet gives a link to a website with technical FAQs, which apply to a variety of the manufacturer's products, but it's not obvious if this device is mentioned anywhere, although some unrelated ones are. The FAQs immediately delve into such technical questions as "How to personalize/change ComboSaver combination," a detailed hardware explantion of how to deal with some other, "Notebook" product. The customer service FAQs are identical to the technical ones. Even the marketing prose on the website is not only hard to find, it does not seem to mention this device.

For all I know this is a useful, well-designed device. But unless the manufacturer clearly tells users somewhere--preferably on their website, in their booklet, and in all their other marketing and technical literature--exactly what it does and how it does it, I don't see how anyone can actually use it. Except as a laser pointer.

Customer Review: Great value for a presenter remote
Summary: 4 Stars

Presenter remotes are one of those things that you just want to have work. Period. Fancy features tend to get in the way of the basic function of being a "clicker" to advance slides. In my opinion, you want to reduce the complexity with presentations, and you really need to have a remote that virtually anyone can pick up and use without any instruction or confusion.

The remote is designed really well, with a solid, hefty feel, a pleasing rubber cover that's easy to grip, and a slot for storing the receiver when not in use.

I haven't pushed this to any sort of extremes in terms of range and battery life, but I think 99% of presentations are in conference rooms where you don't need to be more than a few feet away from the computer.

PROS:
- Plug-and-play - it just works.
- Very simple layout, with forward and back buttons, plus a red pointer laser and a blackout button. Even someone who has never used this before could pick it up and use it immediately.

CONS:
- You have to format the 1GB flash drive before using. Not a huge problem, but it's something that could slow you down in some of those stressful situations where you're getting ready for a presentation and need to move some files quickly.
- The USB receiver that plugs into the presenting computer sticks out further than I'd like.

WISHLIST:
- I would expect that the USB flash drive could be enlarged. Most presentations are smaller than 1GB, but as more people work in video and multi-media, it's possible that you could need more storage space.
- Smaller receiver - something that doesn't stick out so much.
- Bluetooth could eliminate the need for a USB receiver completely.
- A 2nd laser pointer in a different color.
- Slightly larger buttons.

Customer Review: Nifty device, though a little pricey

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
When I first saw the price on this unit, I was confused as to whether or not it was being bundled with actual presentation software but that is not the case. It is a simple hand held remote device for using with presentation software such as Powerpoint or Google Docs. This unit appears to be one of the first of its kind to incorporate remote capability with a laser pointer and USB storage. The older model Kensington 33374 Wireless Presenter with Laser Pointerhas the built in laser pointer but no storage, and is selling for thirty dollars less. 1G USB thumb drives are selling for less than thirty dollars, so I don't really understand why the price of this unit is so high, or why they didn't simply include additional storage.

The unit itself is small and ergonomic. It has a nice weight to it (with the included two AAA batteries installed) and feels good in the hand. The directions are quite sketchy - only showing how to install the batteries, how to remove and plug in the USB adapter, and that a green indicator light (when the remote buttons are pressed) means battery life is good, while red means low battery. While there is no specific "on" or "off" button on the unit, the directions do state to prolong battery life when not in use, to turn "off" the remote by inserting the receiver into the remote.

A good functional little unit, just a little pricey.
