Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kensington Mini Battery Extender and Charger for iPod; iPhone 1G, 3G (Black)Customer Review: No problems here.... Summary: 4 Stars
Sure it's not going to charge your ipod/iphone 3-4 times on one charge, but in a pinch if you find yourself with a dead battery this little guy will get you through. It has the capacity to charge my iPhone 3G from 20% to 100% (in about 1 hour) and that's about it. If you want/need more capacity that that, you need to buy a larger battery. For me this works about perfect.
I haven't had any compatibility problems. None of those annoying "airplane mode" messages. I just plug it into my iPhone, and it beeps and shows that it's charging. You can continue to use the phone with the charger attached. It basically works just like you have the sync/charging cable plugged into a USB port.
Customer Review: My own experience Summary: 2 Stars
I purchased three of these, opened one, used it for about 2 weeks seemed to work on my iphone 3g. Charged the phone up in about 40 minutes.
CONS:
1) after 2 weeks, nothing at all, no charge even if i left this thing charging all night, it would not even charge or be recognized by the iphone.. weird
2) uses a usb to mini-usb to connect to it's power source then iphone connector to connect to the phone, DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO SYNC OR ANY OTHER FUNCTION OF THE DOC CONNECTOR.
net net, i returned all three.. amazon was great about it all.. and will look for one that does support doc connector pass through and last longer then 2 weeks without having issues.
Customer Review: Handy but not very powerful Summary: 4 Stars
If you use your iPhone a lot then you need a battery backup device. I purchased a battery backup that requires a USB cable and it works great, but I was looking for a device that was more compact. The Kensington device is handy because it plugs in directly and takes up little space in your pocket or glove compartment. I was able to attach it without having to remove my phone's protective case. The downside is that it will not completely charge your phone if it is very low. It is great for emergencies but not so great for long games or phone calls. I have not used this device on an iPod, I think it would probably work well on one with low power comsumption.
Customer Review: Canned Lightning Summary: 5 Stars
This is something that every iPhone owner should own. It is a lifesaver anytime your iPhone has depleted its charge - an almost daily occurrence for me. If you plan to use your iPhone for music, gaming or videos on a cross-country flight, this will ensure that you arrive with battery power to spare when you arrive. The dock connector on the battery exender and the mini-USB to USB cord supplied with this product means that you can leave your plug-in charger at home and recharge both the iPhone and the Battery Extender from your laptop. I have an Apple Store two blocks from my office and they have nothing like this available (and should)!
Customer Review: Necessary for iPhone power users Summary: 5 Stars
If you use the iPhone all the time with 3G, fetching every 15 min, bluetooth, watching videos, listening to music and bright screen, etc., the iPhone does not last long at all. Sure you could keep it plugged in all of the time, but the point is to be portable. This battery pack definitely does the job of extending the battery life of the iPhone 3G when needed. It's compact and light. Sure you have to carry something else around but that's the iPhone's fault. The only potential flaw would be the actual connection to the iPhone itself. That could be easily be damaged with repeated use as it looks so delicate, but so far so good.
