Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kensington Mini Battery Extender and Charger for iPod; iPhone 1G, 3G (Black)Customer Review: works great! Summary: 5 Stars
Just got this battery from amazon today. It works great.
To test it out on my new 3G iPhone, I drained the phone's battery completely. The external battery was not charged out of the box so I fully charged the external battery through my computer, which took about 3 hours. Then I attached the charged external battery to the iPhone. I kept the iPhone off while it was being charged by the external battery. The external battery charged my iPhone back to 80% battery life. The charge took about 1 hour.
Also, I have a case on the iPhone and did not encounter any issues with charging the phone with the external battery. The case did not have to come off!
Excellent product. I'll use this just about daily at work/home.
Customer Review: Cannot Sync iPod/iPhone... Summary: 2 Stars
I really wasn't impressed with this battery extender. In the package you get the battery extender and a USB male to mini USB male cable. The cable is cool because its one of those cable organizer ones. The device is small and it does work as advertised. It did work with my iPhone 3G and 1st gen iPod nano.
What I didn't like about it was that it did not include a wall adapter or a car adapter. This means you have to charge it using a USB port on your computer (or if you have an extra one wall adapter). I wouldn't have given this a negative review except you cannot sync your iPhone or iPod using this device even if it is connected to your usb port.
Probably not a big deal to most but I was disappointed in buying it.
Customer Review: It works with iPhone 3G, but with problems... Summary: 2 Stars
I was excited and optimistic upon the arrival of this battery for my iPhone. The battery capacity claimed to be 1000mah; however, it's more like 600mah or less. After charging it fully, it can only bring my phone from around 20% up to about 75%. The battery begins to lose charge excessively during storage time, so I think that these are just lithium-ion batteries from the older iphone 2g batteries. Kensington probably just changed the case for it. It's been cold in Southern CA, so the heat is not a problem.
I have the same problem as the other reviewers on Amazon.com (BATTERY ONLY CHARGES HALF WAY & DOESN'T HOLD CHARGE). I don't see the point of keeping the battery that cannot hold charge. I'll return this, too.
Customer Review: The best one yet Summary: 4 Stars
A solid product that does what it's supposed to. It holds a charge a good long time; I've kept it in my briefcase for a month and it still delivers a full charge when needed. It's solidly built, and doesn't require any cables. I also like the indicator lights. It's sturdy, reliable, and the best choice.
I've tried three other add-on iPhone batteries, and only the Kensington lives up to its promises. The MacAlly portable battery was attractive because it's not much bigger than a USB drive. But it doesn't hold a charge long at all, and I've since stopped using it as you never know if it will have any juice. And Zap had a battery that was as much hype as its supposed electric car.
Go with the Kensington.
Customer Review: Cannot Use Charger and Listen to Ipod Touch at the same time. Summary: 3 Stars
Ok, i was really excited to get this charger. It looked cool and had good reviews. It does work great, i will give it that. My only oversight that I am wanting others to be aware of, is for the 1st Generation Ipod Touch, the headphone jack is located on the bottom right of the Ipod. When you plug this thing in, it completely covers up the headphone jack. So, if you are watching a cool movie and your battery runs low you have to stop and wait for it to charge. Tip: If you are traveling, keep it attached when you are not using your Ipod so it stays charged until you need it. Or, you can play a game that doesn't require sound, it's just a little harder to hold the Ipod and i keep dropping it in my lap.
