Customer Review: Be careful if you use a case

You might want to avoid this product if you have a protective case on your iPhone. I have an Otterbox Defender on my iPhone. I really like the case,it's good protection for my iPhone and I don't want to change to something else.
I was concerned that the Kensington Mini Battery Extender might not work with a hard case, so I emailed Kensington and they indicated that there shouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately, there is. I can't rate the performance of the battery since I don't want to have to remove the case in order to use it.
Another annoyance is that the charging lights don't work as specified in the manual. Initially, I charged it for several hours and only the first light lit up. I'm not sure if the manual is incorrect or if I have a defective battery.

I am reading the reviews on this and cannot understand why reviewers can't listen to their ipods while charging. I bought this at the apple store yesterday, but will be returning it because they charged me twenty more bucks than on amazon. However, I did look at the components and tried to see what all the hype was. Is your device different than mine? It must be, because if you are plugging the device in at the bottom of the ipod or iphone, how is that interfering with the plug at the top where your earphones go? I just don't get it. I even listened to the music while plugged in and it was fine. You can charge AND listen so perhaps we all have different devices. At any rate, even though I haven't had mine long, I will be re-purchasing this and anticipating that it will work just fine.Customer Review: In your Pocket when you need it

I love this thing. Anytime I'm going somewhere I think I might excessively use my iPhone, I just slip this thing in my pocket, and I never have to worry about over using my iPhone! Since I bought it, this little mini battery has saved my but at least 8 times. It is small enough that I can put it in my back pocket and forget about all day or night until I might need it. But powerful enough that I can get about a 90% charge again without having to leave my iPhone plugged up to a wall, where who knows what could happen to it.
If you are going on a hiking trip (I use my GPS a lot for that), a friends house for a day (lots of Photos) or maybe just got invited to a last minute party, but don't have time to charge you iPhone, than you be very happy you had this battery with you.

I too should have read the other reviews more closely before buying this product. The one I received last week DOES work with firmware version 2.2. However, one cannot use earphones when it is plugged in. It would be good for an iPhone as an emergency recharger as one could continue to use the phone while it is recharging. I had planned to use this battery when I could not plug in my iPod Touch for an extended period of time. If I cannot listen while it is recharging it defeats the purpose for me, because by the time it is recharged I will be able to plug it back in.

Customer Review: A Must Have! 4 Stars but still a MUST HAVE

Provides a simple and wonderful extension of your battery when you need it most. It charges the IPOD instead of only acting as a battery and does so quickly.
Knocks (hard to do on something that I think is wonderful). You cannot use the headphone port when the unit is attached. Would be terrific if either it were shaped differently to allow access or had a pass through port that allowed use of the headphone jack.
Have had this item for only a few weeks and it is used almost daily. Kids love using the Ipod Touch and quickly deplete the battery but this keeps them happy for many more hours of fun. Am giving kids an Ipod Touch for Christmas and will certainly be picking up a couple of these as well. You can't go wrong with this item.
